Recently, a new member asked about trying to prove her ancestry of Cherokee Bloodlines in Southeastern, KY Counties. The Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Shawnee were the three major tribes that influenced Kentucky. Cherokee continued to live after 1754 in the southeastern portion of the state. Some of the early settlers did intermarry with these Native Americans. Very few records can be found for Native Americans in Kentucky because: There were/are no Native American reservations in Kentucky. Since there were no tribes living within the state, the government of Kentucky did not keep records of the tribes. Due to the prejudices of the day, Native Americans chose not to disclose their heritage in public documents. This is why many people have difficulty in finding evidence of Native American ancestry in census records Agencies that may be helpful to you in your research: Cherokee Nation, P. O.
