Location is determined and Full Burial is planned. >>>>>>>>>>>>>SNIP<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< OBITUARIES ANNOUNCEMENT THOMPSON, Ruth Lewis, age 89 & 17 days (1914-2003) passed away from a Brain Stroke Wednesday 16 July 2003 a resident of San Pedro 5 years, Redondo Beach 5 years, and Ojai, California 13 years since her retirement from Registered Nursing career in Louisville, KY in 1977. Born June 29,1914 at Hyden, of Leslie County, KY. was the only daughter of John Wm. Lewis 1885-1969KY and Lillian England Lewis 1892-1982 KY. Ruth Lewis (Sullivan) an honor student, Professional Graduate Registered Nurse, from Deaconess Hospital, Louisville, KY. of Class of 1940 Ruth lived and worked in Louisville for 37 years before retiring late 1977 and moving to Ojai, CA. Ruth Lewis (Sullivan-Thompson) retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital at Louisville, KY. , and moved to resort town of Ojai,CA for next 13 years. Ruth was active member of the Daughters of The American Revolution; appointed a Kentucky Colonel; active member of the Kentucky Nurses Association for 37 years, having served as Registered Nurse of Private Duty in every Major Louisville Hospital before her final nursing career in the Veterans Hospital. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents John Wm. Lewis 1885-1969 and Lillian England Lewis 1892-1982 and two former husbands: Mr. Harry P. Sullivan 1898MO-1958FL, a longtime newspaper writer of Miami Herald in Fl., burial Dade Memorial Park, Dade County, Florida in 1958. Mr. Delmar F. Thompson 1913-1977 of Louisville,KY who served 28 years as a Louisville Police Detective, now deceased 1977 and buried Cave Hill Cem. Ruth was proceeded in death by her brothers Hubert Lewis 1912-1984 Lexington, KY and Wallace Lewis 1910-1994 Ross, Ohio. Ruth as War time Registered Nurse was the first Armed Women Guardette employed in 1943 by the former Vultee Aircraft Company at Louisville, KY during WW II. Ruth Lewis Thompson is survived by two sons: John P Sullivan of Redondo Beach, CA and Michael D Sullivan of Santa Paula, CA; Three Granddaughters: Simone Deanna Sullivan (Kraemer), Kimberly Ruth Sullivan(John), Jolee Michelle Sullivan (Patterson); Three Great Granddaughters: Emily Kraemer of Germany, Alexandria S John of California, Sarah O John of California, and one Great Grandson T. R. Patterson of California. Ruth is survived by eight nieces, three nephews and host of cousins. Ruth is also survived by a Great Aunt Mrs. Allie Mae Lewis (Reece) of Sapulpa, OK, sister of John Wm. Lewis 1885-1969KY. Ruth will be greatly missed by all whom knew her and loved her.
