    1. [KYLESLIE] DNA testing & WELSH / NORMAN ancestry, et al
    2. As the List Host, I am forwarding a message about what the LEWIS DNA project will not tell you. A LEWIS list member asked about this, and our list members do have opinions, here was the Question and the Response. JOHN in CA > > > SUBJECT: DNA testing & WELSH / NORMAN ancestry, et al But , could you answer my question? Will it establish my racial background, as "genetic testing" has shown the Welsh are racially distinct from the Normans, so will it establish that? I am the last of my line - the other members of my Grandfather's family are unaccounted for, anywhere. I have nothing to compare to it except corpses I'd have to get a court order to dig up. And that would cost way too much. :-) > > > No, it will not show if your line is Welsh. However as previously noted Normans were *usually* R1a or I haplogroup. There are existing deep ancestry projects, separating out Anglo-Saxon, Scots, Irish, Welsh, etc. Even outlying areas such as the Shetland Island. The more isolated the area, the better the success. But our ancestors moved around a lot. England was a melting pot from many invasions and migrations. Plus a great deal of back and forth travel between Ireland and Scotland. And they had their own problems with invaders. I had my husband tested 4 years ago and I still haven't figured out where his R1b came from.
