Henry Roberts (January 28, 1918 - May 1, 2008) Henry Roberts born January 28, 1918 departed this life on May 1, 2008 at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 3 days old. He was born at Dryhill, Kentucky the son of the late Oakley Roberts and the late Oma North Roberts, however Henry was raised from infancy by Gus & Sarah Sizemore. Henry was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. By occupation he was a retired Sheriff of Leslie County, Kentucky. Henry served his first term as sheriff in 1966 - 1970, and then served his second term in 1982-1986. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Board, Leslie County Water Board, and the Sheriff’s Association. Henry was affiliated with the Swiss Colony Baptist Church in London, Kentucky. He had been a life-long resident of Leslie County with the exception of having lived in London, Kentucky for the past 10 years. Henry was preceded in death by his parents: Oakley & Oma Roberts; two half-brothers: Elmer & Matthew Roberts. He leaves surviving the following relatives: Wife: Zola Wooton Roberts of London, KY., Two Sons: James Marvin Roberts & Cheryl of Owensboro, KY., Augustus “Buddy” Roberts & Delana of Hyden, KY., Three Daughters: Marietta Roberts & Bill of London, KY., Bernadine Terry & Jim of Middletown, OH., Phyllis Ann Cross & C.L. of Fort Lauderdale, FL., One Half-Sister: Gladys Wiley of Indiana, Four Grandchildren: Carey Lamar Cross, Christopher Wayne Roberts, Link Tyrell Terry and Justin Henry Roberts, Two Great Grandchildren: Bailey Roberts & Brady Roberts, Special Friends: Ronnie & Roseanna Williams. Henry survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Henry Roberts held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday - May 4, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Hyden, Kentucky with Rev. Johnny Jervis officiating. Burial followed in the "John North Cemetery" located at Thousandsticks, Kentucky under the direction of the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Staff, Hyden, KY. US Military Rites observed by the Leslie County DAV Chapter #133. Visitation 5:00 p.m. Saturday May 3, 2008 at the funeral home. Mr. Henry Robert’s sons and grandsons served as his pallbearers.
