Kelly Johnson, Jr. (January 14, 1943 - April 18, 2009) The Obituary for Kelly Johnson, Jr. Kelly Johnson, Jr. was born on January 14, 1943, passed away from gunshot on April 18, 2009 at the age of 66 years, 3 months & 4 days. Kelly was born at Shoal, KY., Leslie County, the son of the late Kelly Johnson, Sr. & Virgie Bowling Johnson. He had been life-long resident of Leslie Co. with the exception of living in Lexington, KY from 1968-1991. By occupation he was a U.S. Veteran of the U.S. Army Vietnam War & a self-employed Construction Contractor. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Post # 680 in Lexington, KY. He enjoyed ATV riding, fishing, boating & reading. Kelly Johnson, Jr. was preceded in death by His Parents: Kelly Sr. & Virgie Bowling Johnson, 1 Brother: Bert Johnson. He Leaves the following relatives surviving: His Wife: Linda Thompson Johnson of Lexington, KY., 2 Daughters: Jamie Sizemore of Lexington, KY. & Kelly Renee' Johnson & Kyle Bowling of Indianapolis, IN., 1 Brother: Howard Johnson & Carol of North Carolina, 3 Sisters: Lois Jean Brashear of Lexington, KY., Amy Lou Fielder & Bill of Ohio & Chloe Baker & Bill of Ohio, 1 Sister-In-Law: Esther Johnson Parton of Indianapolis, IN. & 1 Grandchild: Dakota Alan Sizemore A Memorial Service & Military Rites will be performed by the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home & the Leslie Co. DAV Chapter #133 on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Elkhorn School Bottom at Hyden, Ky. The investigation centers on Kelly Lane in the Elkhorn area of Leslie County. State police are trying to find a suspect this afternoon. Kelly Johnson, Jr. died at his home on Saturday night from a single gunshot wound. Family and friends are too shaken up to talk about what happened, but say that he would have done anything for anybody who needed it. Johnson's murder - leaves loved ones gathered at his Elkhorn home in shock. "Everybody who lived here knew Kelly, he was born and raised here and been a backbone of this community his whole life," said Kyle Bowling, who is friend to Johnson's daughter. Relatives say a cousin found Johnson shot to death. Police are not releasing a motive, but family members say money, keys to Johnson's new four wheeler and a gun are missing from his home. They urge anyone who knows anything to come forward. "Think about how they would feel if something like this happened to them or their father or their dearly beloved relative. Kelly certainly didn't deserve anything bad to happen to him," added Bowling. "The information is what we want. You can remain anonymous if you feel like there's something there that you are uncomfortable with. We want them to know that the information is what we want and it will be followed up on," sai d Trooper Tony Watts. Relatives say 66-year-old Johnson was disabled and a veteran who was willing to help anyone in need. Johnson's body is at the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
