The investigation centers on Kelly Lane in the Elkhorn area of Leslie County. State police are trying to find a suspect this afternoon. Kelly Johnson, Jr. died at his home on Saturday night from a single gunshot wound. Family and friends are too shaken up to talk about what happened, but say that he would have done anything for anybody who needed it. Johnson's murder - leaves loved ones gathered at his Elkhorn home in shock. "Everybody who lived here knew Kelly, he was born and raised here and been a backbone of this community his whole life," said Kyle Bowling, who is friend to Johnson's daughter. Relatives say a cousin found Johnson shot to death. Police are not releasing a motive, but family members say money, keys to Johnson's new four wheeler and a gun are missing from his home. They urge anyone who knows anything to come forward. "Think about how they would feel if something like this happened to them or their father or their dearly beloved relative. Kelly certainly didn't deserve anything bad to happen to him," added Bowling. "The information is what we want. You can remain anonymous if you feel like there's something there that you are uncomfortable with. We want them to know that the information is what we want and it will be followed up on," sai d Trooper Tony Watts. Relatives say 66-year-old Johnson was disabled and a veteran who was willing to help anyone in need. Johnson's body is at the medical examiner's office for an autopsy. Hello, I tried to send this to the man Jerry Hall who has her stone under cemeteries but the email addresses were no longer valid. Does anyone know of him? Please email me ecaldwell33@charter.net I just looked at the Leslie site for the first time in a long time. I saw cemeteries and went there then saw Fanny Hall. Please tell me if this is the same Fanny Hall that married James Hall and whose mother was Catherine Saylor Napier Caldwell wife of Jacob Caldwell. This are my grandparents and Fanny would be a 1/2 first cousin I believe. I think her father was a James Napier and I have been looking for proof of who Catherine Saylor's parent were for 7 years. My dad was Sims Caldwell orphaned in 1914 in Leslie Co. after his mother Catherine died during childbirth of Daniel Caldwell Houts. I spent most of my life off and on looking for my fathers family then found them in 2001. I haven't been doing much lately but when I saw your name and Fanny's I thought I would try again. Sincerely, Elizabeth Caldwell
Folks, despite some of the continuing obit bad news, our lives are made up of marriages, births, and indeed death. All historical important events in each of our lives. It is now Spring of 2009 despite the lingering WINTER all across the USA it is time for a new ROLL CALL for our members to reach out and tell us all what genealogy roadblocks you have in your research. Often our members see my references to Pioneer James T Lewis and his descents. There are so many cousins from various surnames under LEWIS that I will list some of the persons related back from the early years of Statehood of Kentucky in 1792: James T. Lewis 1735 Wales - 1825 Cutshin, KY (surnames not in Alphabetical order) Surnames into his descents: > Griffon or Griffen or Griffith > Shepherd > Wells > Kilburn > Couch > Dent > Sneathen > Moore > Spurlock > Bowling > Bolling > McIntosh > Duff > Henson > Strong > Pennington > Morgan > Turner > Adkins > Skaggs > Stidham > Branham > Wooton > Wooten > Vanover > Feltner > Wilson > Smith > Miniard > Maggard > Roark > Weaver > Baker > Kelly > Davidson > Templeton > France > Joseph > McDaniel > Hendrix > Ford > Muncey > Muncy > Robinson > Collins > Begley > Eversole > Williams > Sizemore > Howard > Garrard, AND, the above just get us thru his immediate children relations of those early years when Leslie County was still a part of CLAY County. The late Author Wm. G. O'Connor was quite correct about bloodlines as "Dozens of Cousins" of Southeastern Kentucky.
