There is a new web site on the scene from City of Jackson, in Kentucky. I do not know who or what entity owns this site, as only editors are currently named, but for researchers this site is interesting, if you look at their data. Such a site can be a very useful tool for our BOLLING - BOWLING descents. > > http://www.breathittonline.com/ JOHN in CA Happy 4th of July 2002

I live in Dallas and have made trips to Osage City and Topeka to do research on my wife's families. The Campbells, Crocketts, Hanks, and Orendorfs of Osage City and Emporia. Definitely a connection between the Campbells in Osage City and the Campbells in Emporia. One of her cousins : Harrison Campbell was born: 1879 /1880 in Osage City after the families all arrived in 1879 in Osage during the BLACK EXODUS from the South, (Mississippi). Harrison Campbell in Osage disappeared after his mother died in 1887. I have her obit fromOsage paper. If the parents names and Harrison Campbell of Emporia birthday is right, I think he was named for the Harrison in Osage. Then maybe he was really adopted by James L.Campbell in Emporia. A lot of questions surrounding The two or one in the same man. Were they just cousins. Harrison in Osage was born to: Camelia and William Campbell. I tracked William to Strong City , Kansas where he died in early 1920's. Never a mention of his kids! : Harrison Lloyd, and Lona..I have Harrison's deatn Certificate, Marriage License, and a lot of newspaper articles surrounding his wife's and other relatives deaths, like the Orendorfs. My wife's great, great Aunt, Sue (Hanks) Orendorf of Osage and Emporia, married Ralph Orendorf. I have a lot of that familie's obits and pictures as well. If you can shed any light on your great grandfather and his father, pls email me or call me or send me your phone number and I'll call you. The Campbells and Crocketts might have all met up at Osage during the Exodus from the South. I called a 89 year old Orendorf decendent in Colorado a few weeks ago. She only new a couple of the Campbells...Hope I have not confused you too much..Take care. Bob. Dallas
Folks, recently as of 25 June 2002, my computer screen name became compromised and my password was stolen and BULK e-mail was sent out with disgusting sex messages. It was caught by AOL my ISP provider and I have no way of knowing who MAY have received these disgusting multiple e-mails on the 25 of June, through 27th day of June 2002. AOL has now completed its security changes in my accounts and I am now back online. Somehow while on a legitimate Internet Web Site, NOT a part of the Rootsweb Genealogy System, this VIRUS found my Screen Name and Password and sent out this trash over the Internet. > Below are some of the Safeguards we all should follow: > Hyperlinks (blue, underlined words or phrases that link to other email or Internet sites) can be used as handy shortcuts to online areas. > However, beware of hyperlinks in e-mails from STRANGERS! > On Internet Web Sites such hyperlinks exist. > Hackers may have penetrated these sites and a virus attaches to your computer and sends out disgusting emails under your SCREEN NAME. To keep your computer and your e-mail account safe, NEVER click on hyperlinks in e-mail sent to you by STRANGERS. > BE AWARE on INTERNET web sites you visit. You are vulnerable. My GGrandfather, Hugh Barnes, born somewhere in Kentucky around 1842, Married to Mary Henson and had several children..John (my grandfather), Stephen, Thomas and Sylvania. Mary Henson passed away around 1908 and Hugh married her sister Nicy Henson and listed on the 1910 census a stepdaughter named Bitha Barger. They listed as living in Clay County Kentucky along Big Creek and possibly later moved into Leslie County. I'd like to contact any descendants of Hugh and Mary, or even Bitha Barger. Other than the census records I have no info on Thomas or Sylvania and very little information on Hugh at all, I can't find any record of him before the 1900 census...I'm sure there must have been another marriage or more children somewhere as he was nearly 50 when he married Mary Henson. I can't find any record of his death either. I'd appreciate any help or information anyone can give me. Thanks in advance. John H. Barnes [email protected]

Hello, Does anyone know of a SAYLOR Family Reunion in S.E. KY?? I saw there was one in 2000 in Coldiron. We leave for KY in the morning and will be there from about June 24 till July 11. Maybe I could be a surprise guest if I could find one! Who knows maybe I will find my grandma's family there!? As most of you know my father was orphaned in 1914 and I just found our CALDWELL family last Nov. BTW that Calvin Saylor I mentioned yesterday on the 1860 censes was a typo. It should have read 1880 Harlan Census. In Hope, Elizabeth Caldwell ( no longer a lost child but gotta find grandma!)
Thanks for the input on the Thousands Sticks Newspaper. It is a route to finding out about my grandmother's death in 1905 in Leslie Co. KY. My grandmother was CATHERINE SAYLOR NAPIER CALDWELL. I need her parents names to find my family. Also I thought I might fund out something about her first husbands death. JAMES NAPIER was killed at Greasy Creek Hunting Camp in 1887. An Obit might give her parents names. My grandmother, CATHERINE SAYLOR NAPIER CALDWELL was about 45 when she died in childbirth if the 1860 birth date from the Caldwell book is right. But, in the 1860 Harlan Co Census there is a CALVIN SAYLOR with a daughter CATHERINE SAYLOR age 13. That would make her 7 years younger. She would be 38 when she died in childbirth. It is a lead. Her first child's name was Calvin and there was a Calvin Saylor that witnessed my grandfather's next wedding to Mary Brock. He may have been her father. Just a guess? Does anyone have a CALVIN SAYLOR in their line? The 1900 Leslie Co Census Morrowbone District shows her as age 40. That places her as born in 1860 again. The Orphanage Records show her age as 35 which would be the age at her death unless my grandfather didn't remember. That would have placed her as being born in 1870. Who knows how close the census takers were as far as ages go?? A MIKE SAYLOR signed as a witness and was listed as a relative on her son JACKSON CALDWELL's delayed birth record. I found his granddaughter and we know we are related but haven't figured out how. So now I have a CALVIN SAYLOR that I am obviously related to also but I am not sure if he is her father or maybe an uncle?? And so it goes.... As many of you know my father SIM CALDWELL was orphaned in 1914 and never saw his family again. I met a few for the first time last Dec. I had found them in Nov 2001. It has been and is an incredible journey. I will attend my first CALDWELL Reunions in a few weeks. The Caldwell/Brock Reunion the 30th in Leslie Co and the Caldwell Reunion in Corbin. I am excited to say the least! If I can find my grandmothers parents names I will be able to meet my Saylor family too! Thanks for any help. Elizabeth Caldwell CALDWELL, SAYLOR, WHITEHEAD, BENGE

Hi, Does anyone know where pre 1906 Thousand Sticks Newspapers might be found. The Leslie Co Library has after 1906. The new owners of the paper don't have any real old ones.
