Folks, I just became aware of the new advertisements that pop up on the LESLIE Boards of Ancestry.com. It appears this is now the sign of the times, but I suggest anyone using these BOARDS who are members of this [email protected] keep your virus programs updated. I had NO advance notice of these commercial ads. Regardless of my computer knowledge I do not trust any site with commercial ads to be virus free when you visit. So keep your computers updated. Recently I advised all of our list members of the ROOTSWEB policy and I do feel safe from any virus or worm when you receive these messages to list members. LISTDAD

> > http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/announce.html#virus <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<SNIP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are removed. A virus that is distributed as an attachment will not reach you through a RootsWeb mailing list. New virus, trojans, or worms are constantly being found, along with older version that are still being circulated. A good virus protection software can be invaluable, providing you keep it updated. It is impossible for us to list the thousands of versions here, so we encourage you to refer to the Web sites of companies that list the current versions — especially if you believe you have received a new version. These are a few of the sites, including one that will do an online check of your computer (the first one). > http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ > http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ > http://www.stanford.edu/group/partners/hoaxes.shtml > http://kumite.com/myths/ > http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/ > http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/ What can you do? Protect yourself by never opening an attachment from someone you do not know, or that look suspicious, and keep your virus protection software updated (check for updates periodically, and anytime you have heard of a new virus). If an unexpected attachment comes from someone you do know, write to confirm they sent the attachment prior to opening it. If you receive an e-mail that appears to come from RootsWeb (other than a mailing list digest), and there is an attachment of any kind, don't open it. If you feel the attachment is legitimate, use your virus protection software to check that the file isn't infected. The newest varieties of virus', trojans, and worms, will appear to come from someone you know (such as RootsWeb), or have a file name that would make it look legitimate. Don't assume that because you know the sender, or that because the subject line or file name appears to be legitimate that it is safe — if it is infected, those fields will be forged to appear legitimate. Remember, if you do not open attachments, you substantially reduce the chances of becoming infected with a virus. Delete it. Then empty the trash bin to make sure it is gone. If you are using an e-mail program that stores attachments elsewhere on your computer, such as Eudora, find it there and delete it, too. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SNIP>>>>>>>>>>>> This LISTDAD also recommends that you change your PASSWORD used to log onto your ISP at least every 3 to 6 months as a minimum amount of time to use your current PASSWORD.

Folks in memory of a very special lady who helped bring me into this world, her KENTUCKY festival week will end this 5th of October 2002. Hope those who do not know her will visit Leslie County, KY now or in the future. She was a lady who stepped into the business world with high ideals, in a very desolate area of the United States with one main purpose in life, to bring medical care to those who need, at a critical time in history. The legacy of Mary Breckinridge is still ongoing for such a special lady, who could be a part of so many family genealogies in her lifetime. Has anyone the research of the name CLAUDIA? I know it can be found back in year 1 of the Roman Emperors, but the meaning of the name still is missing from my files. Among 3 different multimedia encyclopedia I find nothing to give the origin. Can anyone direct me to a source? I thank you! JOHN in CA

Richard, looks like you & I are related. Your G Grandfather John Muncy would be my GGG Uncle. John's father, also John Muncy was my GGG Grandfather. Your G Grandfather John Muncy's brother, Samuel Luther Muncy, was m GG Grandfather. I guess the short story here is that your G Grandfather & my GG Grandfather were brothers! I was trying to find John Muncy & his wife Jane (Garrison) Muncy in the 1880 Leslie Census. I heard from someone that they lived in Perry County for a while too. Can you tell me how it is that you relate to John Muncy & Jane Garrison? Do you have any info on John's 1st marriage to a Betsy Estridge? Hi, I just found a listing on RootsWeb for the death of an ancestor of mine. The listing said he was buried in the Muncy Family Cemetery in Hyden, Leslie County. Does anyone know or have heard of this Muncy Cemetery? I would be very, very interested in this cemetery & who is in it. My Mom is a Muncy. John
