KYLeslie List: Searching for any descendants of America Jones. Her father was Hiram Jones. Her first marriage was to Eli "Aley" Webb. A daughter was listed by the name of Genetta Webb, age 5, on the 1880 Leslie County Fed Census. Are there any school records, or marriage records for this Genetta Webb. It is also said America Jones had children with Wiley Collett. Would like to correspond with any descendants of America Jones. Loretta

I have done a fair bit of research in Leslie county on the surnames: CRESS; VERNON; SIZEMORE; SHEPHERD and MAGGARD so my ears perk up when I see any of these surnames posted in queries. A general suggestion to folks, my first names are common and when someone writes, "I am looking for information on John Shepherd" I delete the note without even checking my database because the person writing the query didn't care to give me any hint of the timeframe. It would be most helpful if people as standard practice, gave us readers an indication of the birthdate of the individual they are talking about so we can sort them out. I have probably 10 John Shepherds in my database for instance. <<...OLE_Obj...>> David C. Attride, P.E. I am related to the Brownings there although I live in Florida. The Leslie Co. Brownings descend through Jacob Browning from Virginia to Harlan Co. Ky. He was married to Sarah Clem. A part of Knox Co became part of newly formed Harlan in I believe 1819. The Rootsweb.com sight has a lot of Info on this family. I descend through Jane Browning, Jacob's daughter and James Harlan Thomas. Dan, Preston, Wilson and later Cash and Carter Browning were all raised in Leslie Co. at head of Second Fork. Sorry I don't have the time this week to check out your specific individual. However I think you can check the descendancy on this site and afterwards check for state/county records. Harlan County Website has the most Info since Leslie Co wasn't formed until about 1880 from parts of Harlan, Bell, and Perry counties

My Grt Gma remarried after my Grt Gpa's death in 1905. We're not sure who she married but are certain she did remarry as older generations have said so. Unfort. they are no longer with us so we do not know who she married. I thought she may have remarried in the county she was raising all her children in but I have not had any luck finding any record of a marriage for her there (Laurel Co., KY). I ended up posting on all the county forums that surround Laurel that I felt was within a 20 mile radius to see if she was married in one of these counties. >From a previous post a lady was very gracious and looked up all the Orlena's that died in Kentucky. The only one that came close to an age for her around the timeframe we believe she died shows an Orlena Bowling who died 12-16-1917 in Leslie Co., KY. Here is where I need some help. Where in Leslie Co., KY can I write to try and obtain an obit for this lady, Orlena Bowling, to see if in fact she is my Grt Gma Orlena BLACK Cundiff ?_________?. I believe she may have also went by Laura as her son noted her as Laura on his marriage application. Any help will be so appreciated!! Thanks T

I've decided she probably remarrried in another county near where she was raising her children since there were so many it would of probably been more difficult to travel and get married with all of them. If you have a marriage index for Leslie Co., KY can you please check to see if you have her listed. At this time we do not know who she married we only know from older family members that have passed now that she did remarry sometime after 1905. Orlena BLACK Cundiff Possilby used Laura Thanks T
