1. [KYLESLIE] Bell Co Coal Miners fatalities on website
    2. Hi Everyone: I have transcribed the death fatalities of Coal Miners from Bell County on the KY Coal Miners web site for the years, 1905-1906-1908-1912 and 1914. I will be adding each KY, County as time permits. I am also going to post the non fatal accidents. You will also find photos of Brookside, KY Coal Miners that were added last week. Each month I will post a miners photo on the main page. A tribute to one of our Kentucky Coal Miners and it will stay on the main page for thirty days. This month we honor Bill Cross Sr, from the Harlan Collieries Coal Company. If you have any photos, please send. Kentucky Coal Miners Thanks a Bunch Elva

    1. [KYLESLIE] Muncy cousins & ancestors
    2. Does anyone know who Judge C. Allen Muncy's parents were? I have many Muncy ancestors from the Counties of Leslie & Clay, & am sure that I am related to C. Allen Muncy. I would greatly appreciate any help. Alot of us want the actual records. We do appreciate the time and efforts that are put into these transcripitons that are available on line but we also very much appreciate the services that people like Mary provide. Elva if you had done your homework you would know that yes the death records are available on microfilm but they are divided by year not county and there are about 9 rolls per year at $10 to $15 a roll. Most of us can not afford such an expense. Furthermore, if you had bothered to check your files on line you would see that Phyllis has donated files and alot of people on this board I am sure will be the first to admit how many times Phyllis has helped for free. I really don't like such rude comments and certainly don't want to donate any of my files if this is the treatment that we would receive. Theresa

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBB.2ACI/1467.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello: In reply to free genealogy. Transcribers of records have made available free genealogy records. They have spent their money, their time and with a free spirit have asked nothing in-return. Micro-film is not cheap. If you need the orginal, then you have no other recourse but to order from the state and you will pay the orginal price no matter who gets it for you. If you did your homework, you would know that Kentucky, official death certificates are on micro-film for the years 1911 to 1949. Records prior to 1911 does not include, Eastern Kentucky. To use this board, the rules are, there is no advertising of any material for personal or commericial profit. Not my rule but Ancestry's rule. They owned the boards and we as keepers of the board are required to delete or move the post to the correct board. The same is true for the lists, this board is gatewayed to the mailing list and the rule is anyone violating the AUP will be subject to the reject list. Elva

I have used the sites for marriages, births and deaths. It is a nice tool and gives us clues, but you still need the complete certificates. Much, Much more information on listed on them. It is necessary to have this information because of all the same names in Leslie County. I have used Mary Bishops services in the past, and will do so in the future. She has done a great job in coping deaths for me, and at a much cheaper price than the state wants. She has never let me down (wish I could say the same for state offices.) The state is even considering not allowing folks like Mary who go into Frankfort and get these copies, to continue to do so. They are "losing" money this way. While I can order marriage books etc. on microfilm from them, they will not do the same for deaths. Thank you again Mary for all your help-will be needing some more real soon.

    1. [KYLESLIE] Kentucky Historical Society
    2. Shelby Williams
    3. If, you have not already heard the news, the Kentucky Historical Society is again looking for a new director. As a member of the historical society, and a patron who spends several hours at the facility each week, I'm concerned with the direction the society seems to be taking. A couple of years ago the historical society moved into a new facility which ranks at the top or very near the top of the finest research facilities in the country. Unfortunately, since the move to the new building it appears as though our membership has dropped! In the time that I have been using the library, never once have I seen any mention of the Kentucky Historical Society, its library, or the many services that are provided in ANY of the genealogical magazines that I have and do continue to subscribe too. I have attended conferences, and seminars outside the state in which we should at the very least be represented by a speaker! It seems for whatever reason we are a very well kept secret! Interest in our society needs to be revived! It seems as though the time has come for a director who wants the society to grow and expand. I for one would like to see not only the first floor of the library stack area filled with books, but also the addition of a second floor! The last director was brought in from out of state, which to me doesn't make a lot of sense. It is time that the director of the historical society is a Kentuckian, with knowledge of the history of the state, a vast knowledge of the genealogical holdings within the state, the ability to understand the needs of genealogical, and historical researchers, and the ability to work with our state legislature for the benefit of the society. I wish to nominate Mr. Ron D. Bryant as the new director of the Kentucky Historical Society. Ron D. Bryant not only has seventeen years of experience with the library, is a ninth generation Kentuckian, but is also extremely knowledgeable of the history and genealogical holdings in Kentucky. He is a noted librarian and lecturer on Kentucky, having written over eighty articles, and is the author of Kentucky History - An Annotated Bibliography published in 2000. If Ron D. Bryant becomes director of the historical society, he has stated that he will continue to help patrons with their research in the library. He believes that the director needs to be aware of the patrons needs, and that we must increase our membership. As I mentioned above, I wish to nominate Ron D. Bryant for this position, but I can't do so with your help. If, you agree with me, please send letters to the following gentlemen advising them to name Ron D. Bryant Director of the Kentucky Historical Society: Selection Committee c/o Mr. Walter Baker 917 S. Green Street Glasgow, KY 42141-2086 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Richard L. Taylor 335 Holt Lane Frankfort, KY 40601 Selection Committee c/o Mr. Thomas D. Clark 175 Kentucky Ave. Lexington, KY 40502 Many thanks for your help. Shelby A. Williams
