Alexander seems to be a common name for a lot of the males - one of my father's middle names is Alexander. I recently had some communication with someone in England who is doing research on Alexander MacWhirter Renny - the son of my great great grandfather who received the Victoria Cross during the Indian Mutiny of 1856. I also heard from a MacWhirter in Australia - as it turns out, we share the same great great grandparents - and Andrew Sellon in Scotland, who is also connected to my family. It would be interesting to figure out how you and I are connected. I do have a somewhat crude family tree starting with an Alexander Renny (no dates) whose son was George Alexander Renny born in 1825 ( my gr gr grandfather mentioned above) - if you are interested, I could pass it on to you. Surnames: Brown, Callahan, Duff, Howard, Jackson, Napier, Wilson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GBB.2ACI/1492 Message Board Post: Hello, Hoping someone from the Hall line can help me out with this. I am trying to trace a sister of my grandfather Jake BROWN b. 1892, her name was Ollie BROWN b. abt 1899. She was the daughter of Emiline (Brown) BROWN and Theophlus BROWN. I believe that Ollie BROWN married Willie HALL b. abt 1894, probably the son of John and Nancy J. HALL who appear on the 1910 Leslie Co., KY census with their family. They probably married sometime before 1918. Ollie BROWN appears in the 1911-1920 Leslie Co., KY Birth Records as the mother of Anna (?) and Betsey HALL. Appearing on the 1930 Leslie Co., KY Bad Creek Dist 5 census household #12-12 has Willie HALL age 35, Ollie wife age 29, Anna 12, Betsey 10, Emaline 8, Bertha 5, Loyd 4 11/12 and Nancy J. 2 1/12. Also on the 1930 census a few doors down is the John SPARKS family his wife was Sallie BROWN, who would have been Ollie's sister. Can anyone confirm for me that Willie HALL's wife Ollie is indeed Ollie BROWN? Can you fill me in on the Hall's? Thank you for your help. Bettygene

I have been going through some of my old papers recently and came across a few messages we passed back and forth and have been thinking of you. I have been following my Emiline Brown and Phebe Brown for quite some time and they have given me a run for my money let me tell you. Phebe appears in the book "Pioneer Families of Leslie Co." by Ms. Stidham as Ferbern Brown (her name takes on several spellings over the years), listed with several of her children but no husband. Emiline also appears in the same book married to Theophulus Brown along with several of their children. Phebe shows up in various census living with various children as she ages. Living with son Frank in 1900, daughter Emiline in 1910 and daughter Sallie Sparks in 1920. Phebe Jane died in 1926. I had assumed that she may have gone to live with her daughter Sallie because Emiline may have died, but Joyce Collins found Emiline on the 1930 census for me. I have tried several times to get Emilines death certificate with no luck. But, I did have luck with Phebe Jane's death certificate which clearly states her parents are Adron Napier and Emoline Jackson, so I could establish her as a Napier. Also, Phebe had a sister Fanny Napier that married Henry H. Brown. Actually I had a t! heory that perhaps Phebe married Henry after the death of her sister Fanny but that did not pan out. He was married again to someone else and none of the dates would fit the puzzle. My next choice is to find out more about his brother Jake. Now, back to Emiline. She appears on the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census. In 1930 she is living with her son Frank and his family. So I know she died sometime after that. I know what you might be thinking, that she is the Emiline Brown that died on Oct 12, 1952 in Bell Co., KY. However, she is not. I have the obituary for this Emeline Brown and though the birth date is approximately the same nothing else fits. She is the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Yeary Snavely and was from West Virginia, and her children's names are completely wrong. Her husband was a Jacob C. Brown and I have not done any research on him but he died 20 years before her. Do you know who he is? I appreciate your help, if you come up with anything that can help me establish who Phebe Jane Napier Brown's husband was I would really be grateful. Hope this explaination isn't too confusing, you can e-mail me at my address if it is more convienent with any questions Bettygene.

    3. I have an Amy Pennington, b. 1841, who married Andrew Jackson Whitehead. She's supposed to be buried in the Larkin Lewis Cem. @ Smilax in Leslie County, KY. Would this be your Amy?
