I have asked so many people about this but still have not recieved a reply... I have questioned whether it is Sarah McDowell Penix in the census with Albert Harvey Withrow... or Sarah Music Swearigen. What is even strange is that Albert and Sarah Withrow.. are living in the Oldtown, Greenup County, Ky 1880 Census... and a few houses down is living the Cornelius H Penix the son of David Penix and Sarah McDowell.. BUT ALSO.. Next to them is Fush and Nancy (Swearigen) Withrow.. with is the daughter of George Swearigen and Sarah Music... So.. It would appear that it could be either Sarah??? The one difference that I can see is this Sarah was born in Va... which is where Sarah A. Music was born. The middle initial of Sarah Changes thru these census.. but changes back... Here is what I am trying to explain... This is Sarah Music Swearigen... Living back at home with her mother in the 1860 Greenup County, Ky. Census. Her husband George Swearigen has died and Sarah is a Widow.. (NOTE: Sarah's sister Eliza married Richard Swearigen.. brother to George. Eliza died young and several people raised her children... This fact is to point out something in the 1900 Census) 1860 Greenup County, Kentucky Census Post Office: Oldtown shows the following: Household Members: Name Age Lucinda Music 50 born in Va Eliza Music 19 born in Ky Sarah A Swaringin 25 born in Va Elizabeth Swaringin 7 Martha Swaringin 6 Nancy Swaringin 1 As you can see there is a daughter Nancy age 1.. in the 1860 Census... Now here is the 1870 The 1870 Census shows this... 1870 United States Federal Census Home in 1870: Precinct 4, Greenup, Kentucky Household Members: Name Age Alfred Witherow 36 Sarah A Witherow 36 Cardinal Witherow 14 William H Witherow 12 George W Witherow 10 James W Witherow 8 Alafair Witherow 4 Nancy Sweargin 11 So we know that this is "Sarah Music Swearingen" because Nancy is living in the household... The 1880 Census... is a bit confusing... 1880 United States Federal Census Home in 1880: Old Town, Greenup, Kentucky Household Members: Name Age Alfred H. Witherow 46 Born in Ky. Sarah M. Witherow 43 Born in Va George W. Witherow 19 James W. Witherow 17 Alephar Witherow 13 Lucinda Witherow 8 America Witherow 5 Jeptha P. Finney 33 Lucy Witherow 68 Mother The Middle initial on Sarah switched from a A. to a M. in this census... but still born in Va. NOW.. Nancy is married at this time to Fush Withrow (son of Albert Withrow by a previous marriage) and is living a few houses down... BUT there is 2 new children in the household... LUCINDA and AMERICA! (are they the daughters of Sarah Music or Sarah McDowell)? The 1900 Census states that Alfred and Sarah have been Married for 29 years. The Middle INITIAL switched back to the Sarah A. and a Eddie Swanigan (another way of spelling Swearigen according to Bible Records) is listed as nephew and living in the household. I do know that her sister (mentioned above) that married Richard Swearingen had a son Eddie born abt this time... Please give me some feedback. I am not trying to dispute anyones research... just confirm my own. I do have additional info on Lucinda Withrow.. the daughter of Alfred Harvey Withrow and Sarah McDowell or Sarah Music... but would love to confirm which one is actually her mother... Thanks.. 1900 United States Federal Census Home in 1900: Wyoming, Bath, Kentucky Household Members: Name Age Alford H Witherow 65 Sarah A Witherow 66 America Witherow 23 Eddie Iwaigan (Swanigan/Swearingen)21 ( born Dec 1879) Listed as Nephew!
