I am great granddaughter of Charles McKenzie who married Maggie Spencer, d/o Jasper Spencer married Laura Ingram. (Powell Co KY) Charles and Maggie can be found in the 1910 Census for Farmer's, Rowan Co, KY with their five children: Oscar, Carl, Myrtle Mae, Anna Belle and baby Alba. (Baby Alba, my grnadmother, married Perry Harmon Brewer, s/o Daniel B Brewer and Fannie Perry.) I cannot find a death cert for Charles is my brickwall. His father was Oscor McKenzie--mother unk at this time. I'm thinking it was probably Eliza A Lewis--but another Oscar married a Grizzle--- My 80 year old Aunt said Charles was hit by lightening while working away from home. He was standing under a tree with a man named Andy Emerson when a sudden storm arose, and the lightening ran across the ground to where they were standing. Both men were killed. This would have been before 1920. In 1920 his wife, Maggie Spencer McKenzie(1884-1918approx), she died during the flu epidemic leaving all five children orpahns. The Spencer family took all the kids in. My grandmother Alba was raised in the HH of Jasper(1851-1925) and Laura Spencer. Alba(1908-1974) was orphaned at age 8, married at age 17 to Perry Brewer(1904-1936), and widowed in 1936, and remarried to Russell Phipps by 1940. The only other thing I know about my great grandfather Charles McKenzie is a little confusing--he had a "brother" named Victor. This brother was not on any census with the family. Maggie, had a sister named Cynt. (she had other sisters too..) Anyhow, Cynt, the sister of Charles' wife, got pregnant by Ol' Oscor after his wife had died, and before she married. Any help is greatly appreciated. Pam Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
