Victoria's mother is Evaline Hammond who married George W. Hardwick. Evaline is William Speed Hammond's daughter. (Irony abounds.) I have William's (hubby of Victoria) death cert which states his parents are Phillip Hammond and Allifair Chafins. I have massive info on his kids but little on William. He's buried in the Peterson Cemetery in Weston, along with wife, daughter Hattie and other Hamons, Hamonds, etc. Hardwick's are well documented too. Cannot locate William in 1900 either. Do know that Hattie apparently came back from Ohio to live with him (bringing daughter Ethel Chafin) after Virginia died. She later went back to Ohio where she died in 1951 in Gallipolis, Ohio. (Note: On 1880 census she shows Married but not a last name. She is not William's wife. Her death cert shows widowed but the last name of Hammond still. Family rumors abound about "mysterious mean hubby," "mistresses," etc.) Do have a 1880 census of a William at age 15 boarding with Maynards. Maynards are linked in to the line so am somewhat convinced it may be our mysterious William. (They also lived near other family which adds to the somewhat.) Did not know the M. in William either. Would love to know where you found it. Be happy to share what I have. Reach me at bearsongsample at gmail.com. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
