I have a story that James Fitzpatrick Moore came to Kentucky as an escapee from a ship as an indentured servant. He jumped ship when they were near shore and made his way inland to escape being captured and returned to servitude. And I have no proof either. Once I was told that Fitz meant that the person was illegitimate children of royalty. I have no proof of any of this but it sounds as good as many of the other stories. mfodw From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 06, 2011 9:03 AM To: kylawren@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Moore/Fitzpatrick - Erringhart in KY & PA & Ireland This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. The information I originally saw was from Anderson Ball in the 1930s. He said (and I have heard it repeatedly over the years)that James Fitzpatrick was an illegitimate son who took his mother's name of Moore when he deserted the British Army and joined the Continentals. I have never seen a source document on James or Mary. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It might be a good idea to contact the Louisa chapter of the DAR. One of the many things the DAR does to preserve our history is document cemeteries. They may also know where to refer you for information if this is not one of their documented cemeteries. This is one address for that chapter: Mary Ellen Reid, Registrar Louisa Chapter DAR 2488-HW2565 Louisa, Kentucky 41230 > From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com > To: kylawren@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Borders Chapel Methodist Church and cemetery Lawrence county KY > Date: Sun, 26 Dec 2010 01:00:18 +0000 > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: MarkBurgess35 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.lawrence/6502.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > The picture you have is of the Borders Chapel church, but it's 6 or 7 miles above George's creek on 581. There is supposed to be a cemetery high on the hill behind a house there. I think that you have to go up river a ways before you can get across and come back down river to the place. It is Borders Chapel, about 10 miles South of Louisa. George's Creek spills into the Levisa River there. I know where the George's Creek cemetery is, but that is not the one we are looking for. There are 2 or 3 good sized cemetery along this road. Borders Chapel is a Methodist Church, a very old one." I know there is one called Borders Chapel , it is the one where I know Jefferson Stafford and his wife Emmaline Borders Stafford are buried. Jefferson is related to Henry James Williams. I was told it is not this one but near an old church that are at this place where the directions are. I have photos that were taken but there are few stones and few name, I would be happy to send it to you in email if this will help you help me. Also a photo of the old Church he spoke of. Ky. When I read your question, I couldn't think of where a graveyard would be around this church house. The pictures that are on the internet are of a cemetery out in a bottom close to the river. This is the borders cemetery. I don't think there is one next to the church itself. Where are you located? This cemetery is not far from Louisa, or Paintsville. There is a very old cemetery there? Do you know how I could locate someone that knows all the gravesites??? I am afraid even if there had been a headstone, by now it has fallen apart over the years. So if someone knew who had been buried in the ones that are unmarked and from 1875 or 1876 that would be a big help. Do you know if this Church has been in existence for along time?? Thanks again Mary in Denver Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The best way to get there is to get on 645 and head east towards Inez Ky. just before you cross the river you will find 581, turn right and go about 1 mile and a half. It's on the right side of the road. I was just there for a church service a few weeks ago. Mark Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
