He was employed as a mechanical engineer with NASA in Huntsville, Ala. He was a missionary with The Mercy Ships. Survivors include his father, Robert Welch and wife Judy of Fayetteville; his mother, Linda Jewell of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Betsy Foster of Charlottesville, Va.; aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Beard's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville.
