'Polly' is a common nickname for Mary, as 'Sally' is a common nickname for Sarah, as 'Betsy' is a common nickname for Elizabeth , etc. I think there is a website that contains a list of the major 'nicknames' ... maybe you could do a search using <www.Google.com> as the search engine for the subject search 'nicknames'. Any clues as to who Mrs. Mary 'Polly' Hines/Hinds was originally married to? My Aunt "Polly" from Corbin was also really a Mary. Anybody got a clue where they got Polly as nickname for the Marys? Or is it something very simple that I've never learned?
