They took it to Ashdod and put it in the temple with their god, Dagon. The next morning Dagon had been thrown down and his forepaws were missing. Other bad things happened to the Philistines. The people got emeroids on their secret parts. The mice ate all the grain in the fields. The people of Ashdod took the Ark to the city of Gaza and the same thing happened to the people there. Then they took the Ark to Askelon, to Gath and to Ekron. Everywhere they took the ark, bad things happened to the Philistines. Then the lords of the five cities got together to make a plan to get rid of the ark. They asked their priests and diviners and were told that they had to return the Ark with trespass offerings of a golden emeroids and a golden mice from each of the five cities. Then build a new cart and take two cows that had never been yoked and had new calves that were to be penned. Then they were to load the Ark with the golden emeroids and golden mice. Then, they were told that if the cattle went up the coast to where the Israelites were, that they would know that they had done a bad thing by stealing the Children of Israel's Ark. They did all this and lo and behold the cattle went lowing up the coast to where Joshua the Bethshemite lived. It was at harvest time and the people in the fields saw the cattle coming and welcomed the Ark with great joy. They had a big celebration and killed the oxen and burnt them as an offering to God. This seems to me to be a dirty trick, to burn the oxen as a burnt offering to their God after the oxen had so dutifully brought back their Ark. Also think about those two baby calves shut up . How they must have been bawling for their mothers. I can almost hear them now,. crying for their suppers. If this thing did happened as it says in the Good Book, then it was the greatest miracle that ever happened. Everyone should know that a cow has to be trained from the time it is a youngster to pull in the yoke. To get two calves to pull in a yoke you have to tie their tales together to keep them from turning the yoke and thus try to pull their heads out of the yoke. More unnatural than that is to expect cows to leave new born calves and go lollygagging up the coast pulling a cart, be it a new one or an old one. No way can this be, short of divine intervention..
