Since James died in 1952 and Martha died in 1941, we should be able to find them in the online Ky Death Index for 1911 - 2000: http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ky/death/search.cgi I see hers, but not his: MOORE MARTHA J age:065 LAUREL LAUREL 05-18-1941 027 13072 1941 Did he actually die out of state somewhere? You can use that info on Martha to get a copy of the death cert. for only $1.50 from Chester Ward. He can get you KY death certificates 1911-1952. 3. FROM THE NEW APPENDED VERSION WITH PERMISSION OF THE LAUREL COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ APRIL 10, 1874 LONDON--Rev. W. B. Godby reports a week's service at Walnut Grove, Laurel County, where seventeen were added to the church and a much greater number converted. The pastor of this charge is the venerable Rev. W. B. Landrum. There was a shooting scrape, yesterday, between Ed Magee, -------- Parker and Ed Chesnut, in which five shots were fired. They were in the street, near Wren's grocery, and the crowd was thick as a bee swarm, Strange to say no one was hit. This shooting shows a reckless disregard for life, and also furnishes further proof that the carrying of concealed weapons should be made a penitentiary offence. Judge Randall fined each party $10 for contempt of court, and the grand jury will undoubtedly get an indictment against each, and then the evidence being so plain, into jail they will go. Let the law be enforced. When the firing began we thought it was our old friend, Hy Doolin for he came out of the crowd with Polly's mare by the bridle, swearing he could whip anything on the ground. Just such running, dodging and hiding you never witnessed. Several of our brave boys mounted their horses and left for their wives and little ones/ From what we learn about matter, whisky, as usual, w! as at the bottom of it. London voted whiskey out of town last Saturday by a vote of 22 to 12. APRIL 24, 1874 MERSHONS X ROADS. On last Friday, Joel Elkins of Rockcastle county, attended our court, charged with an assault on one Sherrill; he was fined twenty-five dollars, and bound over to keep the peace; returning home drunk, he arrived at the river after dark, when one of his companions horses got loose and while all hands were trying to catch it, Elkins rode into the river and was drowned no one witnessed it but two little children who were holding the light on the boat. He was a bad man and was universally disliked. On the night of the 6th ham Kirby was fired on, in McKee by some unknown parties and instantly killed. The case has been investigated but the conclusion not known. MAY 1, 11874 On Friday evening last, a murderous assault was made, between sundown and dark, in Mt. Vernon, upon Pullin Sanfrisco, Jailer of Rockcastle county, by three negro prisoners confined in said jail. Whilst one of the others, with a chair post made the deadly assault by dealing him 16 severe blows upon his head, fracturing his skull. As is supposed they left him for dead and then made their escape. A little son of the jailer witnessing the assault, at once gave the alarm that the prisoners had murdered his father when pursuit was immediately made, and they were recaptured and secured. Mr. S's condition is very precarious, with but little hopes of his recovery.

    3. The following is from the pamphlet/booklet "LAUREL COUNTY HISTORY OF CHURCHES AND SCHOOLS" written April 1900. It appears to be the church you are looking for. Janette Dees Burke _________________________________________ MACEDONIA M. E. CHURCH MAPLESVILLE, KY. Was organized July, 1895. In 1860 there was an organization effected, but did not prosper and grow, till it was revived under the preaching of George CLOYD, Nelson KETRON and L. M. BAKER preached the first sermon in the new house shortly after Christmas, 1896. A Sunday School is kept up in the summertime. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Rutledge,Johnson, Hale Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EBB.2ACE/2520.3.1 Message Board Post: Hi Joyce, Thank you. There was a lot of useful information in your postings. I believe that Eliza (Anna Eliza) Rutledge who was on the 1880 Rockcastle census with her parents William and Lou Rutledge was my great-grandmother who married my great-grandfather Joseph Calvin Johnson around 1889. Of course this would make Franklin, Charles and William her brothers who were listed on this same census. I'm hoping that I can find some decendants of these Rutledges and that they would be able to help me confirm that I do indeed have the right Rutledges and that this was my great-grandmothers family. Of course I have a couple of seperate issues that have me puzzled. One is that Joseph and Eliza Johnson (listed on census as Johnston - With daughters Gertrude, Anna, Nancy) were listed on the 1900 Knoxville, Tennessee census. What were they doing in Knoxville,TN with most if not all of her Rutleges's living in Laurel County,KY or the surrounding counties in Kentucky ? Two is that I do find this same family on the 1910 Whitley County census (but listed correctly with surname Johnson this time) and this census states the wife Anne E. has been married twice. It says they had been married for 21 years. Well here's the second part of the puzzle, all along I have been looking for a marriage between Joseph Calvin Johnson and a Anna Eliza Rutledge around 1889. Maybe I have been looking at it all wrong. Maybe when Joseph married Eliza that she married him under her married name and not her maiden name (I don't have a clue whether she was widowed or divorced at that time). But anyway, this would havbe most likely meant that Eliza's first marriage would have taken place between 1880 and 1889. Can you find a first marriage for her in Rockcastle, Laurel or some other place ? I have also never been able to find a death certificate on her. But I was told that she died in Mount Vernon, KY in 1911. But I digress. What or who I am trying to find is Franklin,Charles and William Rutledge on different census's so I can see what children they had and to possibly locate these children or most likely it would be the grandchilren of Franklin, Charles and William that I could locate and then possibly contact them to see what they may or may not know about their Rutledges. Would you believe that Wlliam Sr and wife can be found on the 1910 Bell County,Kentucky census living with his son William jr. and wife Almira and sons Ernest and Roy. But yet there are no Rutledges indexed as being in Bell County,KY on this 1910 census ? But someone sent me a couple of census pages and these Rutledges can be found on the same census page as my great-uncle Harry Hale. However, this census has my great-uncle listed as Harry Hall and not Harry Hale on this census. But I have not located William and Almira's children Ernest and Roy. As a sidenote, would you know or can you see who Almira (Hale) parents might have been ? Now if you go to the very next page on this same census you will find Charley Rutledge and his wife Bertie with their children Cleo, Oscar and Leona. Once again, these Rutledges were not indexed but there are in fact living in Bell County in 1910. Now I did happen to get an obituary on the one son Oscar from his death in 1960 and it did list his siblings, but I have not been able to find these family members, so if you can find them, please let me know. Here is the obituary : Oscar E. Rutledge's obituary appeared in the Wednesday, June 22, 1960, edition of the Louisville Courier-Journal, on page 12. It read: "Oscar E. Rutledge, 51, a foreman for the Raymond Krauth sheet-metal firm at Baxter and Rogers, suffered a heart attack there Tuesday morning and was dead on arrival at a hospital. Rutledge, 2125 Maple, had been ill since October. Survivors are his wife, the former Virginia Gordon; two sisters, Mrs. Cleo Tyrell, Mitchell, Kentucky, and Mrs. Leona Brooks, Cincinnati, and a brother, Charles Rutledge, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The body will be at Rafterman's, 2114 West Market, after 2 pm Wednesday." So this is where I am at on my Rutledges. One is that I have to find some of these descendants of Frank or Franklin,Charles and William Rutledge and then their descendants will have to know some things about their own family history or their family ancestry if you will. Thanks again, Bill P.S. A couple more things. It looks like Frank and Eva may have had only one child ? It also appears that John or Franklin was the same person ? Now I believe that the Thomas Rutledge that you listed may have been the brother of William Sr.
