Well, my Henson line also appears to have come out of Randoph Co NC via Wayne Co KY. Kathy, the big question that a lot of people would like to know is the one you just asked. I don't know who Mrs. Mary 'Polly' Hines/Hinds was married to before she married Rev War Vet John Forbis of Laurel Co KY. A 'Paul Pigg' certified that 'Polly' was a widow so she was free to marry John. Paul Pigg should be a good lead to check out ... is he her father/brother? After John Forbis died 1854, 'Polly' applied and was approved to receive a pension based on John's military service and she lived out her life in Laurel Co KY. The only Hines/Hinds that I have in my data-base in Madison Co KY is a John Hines/Hinds married to Rebecca Robinson on August 06, 1789 Madison Co KY. John and Rebecca had a daughter Margaret 'Peggy' Hines/Hinds who married Thomas Harris/Harrison (son of Sherrod) on August 09, 1811 Clay Co KY. I am showing a Stephen Hines/Hinds b abt 1792 married to a Sarah Reece. I also have a Samuel Hines/Hinds who showed up in the 1805 Garrard Co KY Tax List. Also, Jackson Co KY came out of Laurel Co KY and in Jackson Co KY there was an Eliza Hines/Hinds living there as of August 11, 1862. Please share any Hines/Hinds family information that may help determine who Mrs. 'Polly' Hines/Hinds was married to prior to her marriage to Rev War Vet John Forbis of Laurel Co KY. Thanks for sharing. Any clues as to who Mrs. Mary 'Polly' Hines/Hinds was originally married to? I know around 1779 the Joseph Hinds family lived in Rowan (now Randolph) county, NC. My hubby's line in the son named Stephen Hinds/Hines. Stephen was born in Knox county, NT, then move to Wayne county, KY in childhood. In adulthood he lived in Madison county, KY before finally settling in Pulaski county, KY. Kathy "ROATEN E HINSON, JR." wrote: > > Mary Ann, I noticed Wyat Hazlewood listed. Mary Ann, I noticed Wyat Hazlewood listed. He is listed in the 1820 Clay Co KY Census b bef 1775. Wyatt was married to Martha PIGG. Remember our Rev War Vet John Forbis/etc married Mrs. Mary 'Polly' Hines/Hinds on Feb 20, 1820 Clay Co KY and they lived out their lives in Laurel Co KY. 'Polly' is thought to have a maiden name of Pigg. A Paul Pigg certified that 'Polly' was a widow so she could marry John. Curious if Martha Pigg is a sister/related to 'Polly' Pigg ... or is this just coincidence that all of these people are living so close together ... I don't think so. Does anyone know if Maplesville, KY is still a town? I have been told that it was about 5 miles east of London. I have a copy of a relative's renewal of faith in the Macedonia Methodist Episcopal Church of Maplesville. Also, I have a clipping from the "Mountain Democrat" newspaper from June 7, 1901 telling of the death of my grandfather's (Jacob Bill III's) brother, Sherman Bill. It says "the funeral will be preached this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his parents by the Rev. John B. Dickson and the burial will take place about 3 o'clock on Cemetery Hill". Mary Ann ... the William Fanbush is the father of Anna Forbis/etc who married George W Henson. The are also found still living next to each other later in Jackson Co KY after Jackson was created out of Laurel. As a side note ... a lot of these same people moveed as a group (wagon train) to Missouri and were found in the 1840 Livingston/Grundy Co MO Census where many Laurel Co residents settled. My George W and some others returned to Laurel Co KY abt 1845. Thanks for all of your help and sharing. I agree with you about the McHargue Cemetery in Laural County. I have been there several times with members of my family. We traipse all over to read the engravings on the stones. Some are really intriguing, and cause scenarios to fly through the mind. Laurel County adjoins Knox County (my home county).

Robert, I have in my data-base a note that Hugh shows up in the 1815 Rockcastle/1827 Laurel Co KY Tax Lists. Looks like the area of Laurel Co where our Forbis/Forbes/etc ancestors lived came out of Rockcastle/Clay Co KY area where Rev War Vet John Forbis once lived. Robert, it appears the William Faubus you found in Jackson Co KY is not the son of Rev War Vet John Forbis/Forbes/etc ... but he is probably related, maybe a nephew? The son of our Rev War Vet John Forbis/etc of Laurel Co KY named William ... is my ggg-grandfather William Forbis/etc who married Sarah McCammon Dec 02, 1808 Clay Co KY (consent by father William McCammon). Their children names are; William JR married to Adeline Parker on March 19, 1845 Laurel Co KY, Anna married to George W Henson (George and Anna found in 1840 Livingston Co MO); Elizabeth married to Harrison Ross Porter Dec 22, 1839 Laurel Co KY; Elliot married to Martha E. Parker Jan 22, 1850 Laurel Co KY; Asa P. married to Lucinda Branstetter/Branstutter March 22, 1883 Jackson Co KY (Asa living with parents William and Sarah in 1860 Jackson Co KY Census); Stephen (patented land in Grundy Co MO May 01, 1843); Druscilla married to Thomas Lear/Lair on April 06, 1834 Laurel Co KY (Witness William Metcalf who later moved to Livingston/Grundy Co MO and became a Judge of Grundy Co); John M (recieved 'deed of gift' from his father William dated Jan 11, 1846 Laurel Co KY ... was listed earlier in 1840 Livingston (Grundy Co) Co MO Census); Sarah who married Allen Summers abt 1830 Laurel Co KY. A large group of Laurel Co KY residents left for Livingston Co MO abt 1837 including the Forbis/Forbes ... McCammons ... Hensons ... Metcalfs ... Elkins ... Blacks ... Inmans and many others. Grundy Co was formed out of Livingston Co MO where they are all found after abt 1840. Some returned to Laurel Co KY abt 1846. Hope this information helps someone. Thanks for sharing. Facts are as follows: 1. Hugh Forbes/Faubus/Forbush I was only able to find Hugh and family in the 1840 and 1850 US Census of Laurel Co., Ky. 2. William Forbes/Faubus and Sarah Denny I found living in the home of Charles Milborn and wife Susan Forbes in the 1850 Census of Laurel Co., Ky.. William and Sarah have one child Nancy A, age 6 mo. 3. Willian and Sarah, children Nancy A. age 10, Rachal age 6 and Margaret age 4 in the 1860 US Census of Jackson Co., Ky. Instead of being listed as William Forbes he is listed as William Faubus. 4. Isaac Forbes is lining home in 1850 with his father Hugh Forbes A and mother Fanny Milburn in 1850. In the 1850 US Census with marriages and vital stats it is stated that Isaac and Rebecca Summers were married Dec 21, 1857. 5.Isaac, wife Rebecca, and daughter Sarah L age 11 mo. were also listed in the 1860 US Census of Jackson Co,. Ky. as Isaac Faubus, his occupation was blacksmith. Now my great, great uncle Henry Faubus who was born in Washington Co., Tennessee, an attorney is assistant martial of the US Census of Jackson Co., Ky. his name is at the top of the Census, now I'm even more confused. Who is Hugh Forbes/Forbush who was born in Tennessee abt. 1805? Robert Mary Ann Bolton <hipurplepassion@msn.com> wrote: Hi Robert, Thanks for your reply. On the documents I just browsed from Sharon, I saw a descendant named Drucilla in the line she thinks is mine? and I thought she is named after grandma...will have to check all of this out as I haven't worked this family for a long time and need to get up to speed on them. Aloha, Mary Ann Hello Mary, John Forbes/Druscillah are my fourth great grand parents, thir! d great Thomas Alexander Forbes/Ruth Ellis, second great Morga n N. Forbes/Tamsey Singleton, great grand parents Thomas Maret Forbus/Mary Ann Johnsoon. Forbis/Forbish/Forbes/Forbus/Forbis/Faubus/Faubush/Fawbus/Fawbush are the names used by my family and others over the past three hundred years so as you see research has been one big job. Hugh Forbush/Fawbush is the son of John Forbes, my line. Now we do not know who the mother was. I think Hugh may have been born before the war, but I am not sure. One researcher JAMES WESLEY HUTCHINSON who did a lot of early research on John Forbes family places Hugh's birth abt. 1776, and did not give Hugh's mother's name. Hugh lived in Washington Co., Virginia in the late 1700s and in Washington Co., Tennessee in the early 1800s, Hugh was married to Martha Mattoch a Cherokee. Hugh died in Washington Co., Tennessee in 1818 and left a large family. I am not 100% sure that your Laurel Co. ! Hugh is the son of Hugh Forbes/Fawbush, but my research makes it look that way. Mary. it was good hearing from you, and any time I can help just let me know. I will look close for any other leads in regard to your Hugh. Robert
Mary Ann, I am showing a Joseph Forbis/etc b abt 1816 (son of Thomas Alexander Forbis and Ruth Ann Ellis-Forbis) married to a Sarah Williams on Jan 04, 1837 Laurel Co KY ... is this the same Joseph you are showing as a son of Rev War Vet John Forbis/etc of Laurel Co KY? Also, I am showing an Isaac Forbis/etc b June 20, 1814 as a son of Thomas Alexander Forbis/etc and Ruth Ann Ellis. This Isaac became a Judge in Laurel Co KY and he is the one that I am showing married to Lavina 'Vinny' Summers Nov 23, 1843 Washington Co TN. I am showing an 'Anna Summers' married John M. Forbis/etc on April 29, 1842 Laurel Co KY. I am showing this John M. Forbis/etc also as a son of Thomas Alexander Forbis. I have a note that Alexander moved to KY abt 1840 and that he was found living in the household of John M and Anna Summers-Forbis in the 1850 Laurel Co KY Census. You can find John M Forbis/etc in the 1860 Jackson Co KY Census (Jackson came out of Laurel Co KY). I am also showing an Allen Summers (brother to Vinny and/or Anna?) married to Sarah Forbis of Laurel Co KY. (See Allen Summers in the 1847 Laurel Co KY Tax List). Allen and Sarah had children; Elizabeth Summers found in the household of Henry Forbis/etc in the 1850 Laurel Co KY Census; Rebecca Summers who married Isaac Jackson Forbis/etc on Dec 21, 1857 Laurel Co KY ... this Isaac is a son of Henry Forbis/etc and Mariah O'Connell who married Nov 08, 1838 Washington Co TN. This Isaac had a brother Ellis who moved from Laurel/Jackson Co KY to AR and settled in Madison Co Arkansas. The Henry Forbis/etc found in the 1850 Laurel Co KY Census is noted in my data-base as a son of Thomas Alexander Forbis/etc and Ruth Ann Ellis. I am showing the Thomas Forbis/etc b abt 1824 who married Rachel Bayles/Bayless on March 15, 1845 Laurel Co KY (by Isaac J. Forbes JP) as the 'son' of Thomas Alexander Forbis and Ruth Ann Ellis. See 1857 Laurel Co KY Tax List. I am showing this Thomas JR b abt 1824 as also marrying a 'Winnie' Vance on July 28, 1860 Laurel Co KY. The only William Forbis/etc I am showing as a son of Rev War Vet John Forbis of Laurel Co KY is my ggg-grandfather William Forbis who married Sarah McCammon on Dec 28, 1808 Clay Co KY (see 1820 Clay Co KY Census). William and Sarah McCammon-Forbis/etc had a son William Forbis JR who married Adeline Parker on March 19, 1845 Laurel Co KY. My William is the 'proven' son of the Rev War Vet John Forbis who lived out his life in Laurel Co KY and I don't know anything about a younger William born abt 1826. Sorry, that I don't know who the younger William Forbis/etc b abt 1826 belongs to, but I am showing he married Sarah 'Sally' Denny/Denney on Nov 08, 1847 Laurel Co KY (see 1850 Laurel Co KY Census where this William was found living in the household of Charles and Sarah Forbis/etc-Milburn). William b 1826 and Sarah had a daughter Ann b abt 1849 Laurel Co KY. Rev War Vet John Forbis/etc did have a brother Isaac Forbis/etc, a Rev War Vet and a Baptist Preacher, who married a Hayden. This Isaac died abt 1831 Laurel Co KY and he did have a son William born in the correct time period to possibly be the William b 1826 that you mention. Rev War Vet John Forbis/etc of Laurel Co KY, with his last wife Mrs. Mary Hinds/Hines married Feb 20, 1820 Laurel Co KY (Paul Pigg certified Mrs Hines/Hinds was a widow). I have never seen a place so beautiful. McHargue Cem. has been kept beautiful as well. If the cemeteries here were kept as nice as the ones I saw on my trip, it would be wonderful! I go each year on the first Sunday of June for Decoration Day there. They always have a tent sit outside for people to make donations if they want for the cemetery upkeep. No pressure to give, just if you want.
Everyone has that the Branon family in McHargue Cem. is spelled "Brannon". For those who might research this family, the graves DO NOT have that spelling. I went to the McHargue Cem. recently and took photos of my Branon ancestors graves. It is spelled BRANON on the stones. In the census records it was at a certain point spelled Brannon, but the graves have only 1 "N". Also, The grave for Levi Branon. His grave says "Levi C. Branon". It is transcribed as "Levi E. Brannon". In my grandmothers Bible she wrote his name "Levi Cox Branon". I live 6 hours from Laurel County and this was my first trip there and I loved it. I have never seen a place so beautiful. McHargue Cem. has been kept beautiful as well. If the cemeteries here were kept as nice as the ones I saw on my trip, it would be wonderful! There was one grave I did not find though, it was Josephus Branon, son of Emma and Leroy Branon. Emma is buried there and I found hers. There is a small stone beside her but it is a Hodges. Emma's stone is very hard to read. The transcriptions list Josephus.. where is he though? I do not know. We have a huge cemetery here that has been taken care of well, except for the very old graves (the first ones in the cem. actually) were not taken care of and the stones are now buried. If we need to find a grave, we nearly have to dig up the person just to find the stone! I hope this is not the case with Josephus. Also the transcription says Emma is only found back to 1860. Emma was in Carter Co., TN in 1850 with her husband, Leroy. I do not know where Leroy is buried, he is said to have died in 1853. If Leroy did die in 1853, Emma had 2 children many years after his death. They kept the Branon name but Emma did not remarry as far as we know. Meg
