    3. Pat, Jess Wilson is descended from a Paul (a twin) Pigg b 1785 VA married to an Elizabeth Davenport through their son Gabriel Pigg and their grandson George Harvey Pigg and their ggrandaughter Rebecca Pigg who married Pleasant C Wilson. Remember a Paul Pigg certified that Mrs 'Polly' Hines was a widow so she could marry Rev War Vet John Forbis on Feb 20, 1820 Clay Co KY ... it may very well be Paul Pigg b 1785 is a brother to Mary 'Polly' Pigg!!! Could you check/double-check your Pigg information. Thanks Pat for knowing so many people and being descended from some of them. We are going to be cousins yet, somehow. 3. Roaten and Mary Ann Mary said that you had a Forbis in Randolph Co. NC. and he was in Rowan Co. NC. instead. I think that you Rev. John Forbis was b. in Va. and came to Randolph Co. NC this could be Rowan Co. NC. instead. Randolph Co. was made from Guilford Co. and Guilford was made from Rowan Co. NC. Do you know when he came NC. ? John would have been with in 30 miles from George E. Forbis and George owned about 28,000 acres in Rowan Co. Just trying to tie John in closer to the George E. Clan. 3. Hi again, Yes, there were a lot of PINGs in Pulaski county and also some other rather interesting surname too. I think there were a few PIGGs, but I'd have to recheck that. The one HINES/HINDS marriage that always makes me stop and do a double take is the one to the lady named Ohio Ham. I bet she was glad to change her last name! ;o) Kathy "ROATEN E HINSON, JR." wrote: > > Kathy, are you sure Nancy Hinds b abt 1816 married a Lewis 'Ping' ... maybe > his name was Lewis Pigg? 2. ROATEN E HINSON, JR.
    3. Charlotte, I can't seem to find the family Frances Black ties into. What Census year are you referring to in the 1st sentence? I do have a Norris Black married to Eliza Jane Cathers on Dec 29, 1851 Laurel Co KY ... a Sarah A. 'Sally' Black married John H. Casteel on Aug 07, 1837 Laurel Co KY ... I am showing a Mary Ann 'Polly' Black married to James Metcalf in Clay? Co KY abt 1816 (see James Black in 1827 Laurel Co KY Tax List), both James and 'Polly' lived out their lives in Laurel Co KY ... A Leander Black married Mary McHargue on April 13, 1854 Laurel Co KY ... also there was apparently a John Titus Black b abt 1825 of Laurel Co KY married to Martha Frances Mullins ... An Arnold 'Alexander' Black JR married Elizabeth Harris on Jan 07, 1841 Laurel Co KY ... Albert Redford Black married Cornelia V McCammon, daughter of William A. McCammon (a Baptist Preacher) and Rosanna Oxford who married March 13, 1834 Laurel Co KY and shortly moved to Livingston/Grundy Co MO as did many Laurel Co KY families abt 1837. Albert and Cornelia married Sept 05, 1867 Grundy Co MO ... many Black lived early 1800 in the Clay Co KY area and it was probably an area of Clay/Rockcastle Co's that became Laurel/Jackson Co was the home of many Black family names. If anyone reading this information can add information on these families it would be appreciated, and is much needed to be complete and accurate. Thanks for sharing. I see it more often *with* the 's,' but it's not terribly unusual to see it left off as well. I can talk best about the HINDS line that R.E. mentions by starting with my husband's direct line of Samuel Stephen Hinds/Hines who married Jane Waddle in Pulaski co., KY on November 14, 1849. From there I can work my way back fairly well. I do have copies of some records for Pulaski county, but I have never (personally) researched Wayne county yet. I can add to what I know on the HINDS/HINES line by referring to a book I have: "HINDS of Kentucky and Tennessee" by David B. Trimble. It was published in 1994 and is a conglomeration of many researchers' work. As always, it is advisable to verify the records named in the research. Samuel Stephen Hinds/Hines m. Jane Waddle in Pulaski co., KY on November 14, 1849. They had 11 known children, one of whom was Benjamin P. Hines - my husband's great-grandfather. Samuel Stephen Hinds/Hines was born on January 13, 1823 in Madison (or Knox Co.), KY. I think I have a photo of his grave here somewhere, which verifies his birthdate. But I have not proven he was born in Madison (or Knox Co.), KY as yet. His parents were Stephen Hinds and Sarah Reece. I have a marriage date for them of October 29, 1813. I believe that they married in Wayne county, KY, but I do not have a copy of that record as yet. From the HINDS book that I have: Stephen HINDS was born about 1791 in Knox county, Tennessee, and moved to Wayne county, Kentucky, in childhood. He served as a fifer in Capt. Micah Taul's Infantry Company of the 7th Regiment of Kentucky militia from August 23, 1812, to March 23, 1813; his children later received bounty land for his service. On October 29, 1813, he married Sarah Reece and then moved to Madison County, Kentucky. ON October 14, 1826, they sold their 83 acres on Silver Creek to John Richardson and moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, where both died about 1844. 3. Kathy, could you confirm Stephen Hines/Hinds b abt 1791 married Sarah Reece on Oct 29, 1813 Wayne Co Kentucky? ... I may have a mistake, I am showing Wayne Co INDIANA. Could you or anybody on this site please let me know if they married in KY or IN? 'R.E.' -----Original Message----- From: Kathy Hines [mailto:khines1@qwest.net] Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2004 9:50 AM To: KYLAUREL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYLAUREL-L] George W Henson b abt 1799 NC of Laurel Co KY Hi R.E. and listers, Maxine gives good advice of always looking for Hine/Hind without the s too. Some of my family lines came from the Laurel/Knox/Whitley area about the same time and I have alsways heard about a wagon train. Some of the names would have been Hart, Owen, Higgins, Loe, Lowe, and probably several others. I also believe that one of the Hart men returned to Kentucky, probably about the same time your George W returned. Would appreciate very much hearing from you about those who made the trip to north Missouri. 3. I'm finding that one of Joseph's brothers also moved to Wayne Co., KY. I probably shouldn't post all of that info as the rest of the folks on this list would probably keel over from the onslaught of Hinds information. ;o) Just a synopsis: Joseph Hinds' brother Samuel married at least twice; Sarah ___ abt 1788 and Mrs. Martha Carrigan on Aug 20, 1820. Samuel moved to (now) Wayne Co, KY where he surveyed a grant on the Cumberland river on Dec. 20, 1798, and a grant of 50 acres there on June 3, 1800. Another brother, Levi, moved from Hawkins (now Knox Co.), TN to Madison county, Alabama. Another brother, Simeon, moved to Overton Co., TN and lived out his life there. In addition to the brothers (Joseph, Samuel, Levi, and Simeon) there were also 7 sisters: Charity, Hannah, Ruth, Mary, Phoebe, Sarah and Abagail. Kathy Hines in MN

    3. Moving one generation back from the family described in my last e-mail: From the book "HINDS of KY and TN" by Trimble - pg. 2 Joseph Hinds was born about 1759 in Morris County, New Jersey, and moved to Rowan (now Randolph) County, North Carolina, where in 1779 he paid taxes on 200 acres, 30 of which were improved, three cattle and 5 pounds cash, all valued at 335 pounds. About 1780 he married Margaret _____; they moved to Hawkins (now Knox) County, Tennessee, and then to Green (now Wayne) County, Kentucky, where on April 7, 1799, he surveyed a grant of 100 acres on the waters of Cumberland River; on May 20, 1799 , he sruveyed another 100 acres grant there. On August 22, 1808, he sold 300 acres of his father's 5,000 acre grant on Duck River in Maury County, Tennessee, to Joseph Woods for $40.00; on April 1, 1811, he received a grant of 100 acres on Meadows' Mill Creek. He died about 1813, leaving the following children: [1] Joseph Hinds, b. c1781; m. March 30, 1801, Amy Meece - lived in Madison county, KY in 1815. [2] George Hinds, b. c1783; m. Nov. 28, 1811, Mary Hinkle - many of his children moved to Cole county, MO and perhaps he moved there about 1840 as well. [3] Benjamin Hinds, b. c1785; private in Barbee's 7th Regiment of KY militia in the War of 1812; m. Dec. 20, 1819, Nancy Fox - they moved to Miller county, MO where he died about 1856. 3. OK, *that* got my curiosity. Any clues as to who Mrs. Mary 'Polly' Hines/Hinds was originally married to? I know around 1779 the Joseph Hinds family lived in Rowan (now Randolph) county, NC. My hubby's line in the son named Stephen Hinds/Hines. Stephen was born in Knox county, NT, then move to Wayne county, KY in childhood. In adulthood he lived in Madison county, KY before finally settling in Pulaski county, KY. Kathy "ROATEN E HINSON, JR." wrote: > > Mary Ann, I noticed Wyat Hazlewood listed.
