    3. Mary, Here is the web address of the National Personal Records Center that maintains military personnel records. I believe that only the service member or if deceased his next of kin can request the full records but am not sure on that. The web site tells how to request the records. . http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_records/standard_form_180.html John, Tucson, AZ Mary Hart wrote: >Could someone help me get started looking for the service records of a World War II Navy veteran. 3. Mary, You might try the VA, they have a 800 number you can call. I have received my father and grand father's files that way. Since there was a fire in St. Louis that burned a lot of veterans files I was able to learn a lot in the medical files, that was available else where. Be forewarned that it can take months to get these records. Hope someone can identify the two men with my grandfather in this portrait-type picture. My grandfather, John Benjamin(e) Clark (1879 Laurel/Rockcastle cos. KY--1967 Jefferson Co. KY), is standing on the LEFT as you look at the picture. The taller man on the right was wearing a tie with the initial "N." So far, we have no surnames in the Clark line that begin with "N." The older man, seated, could be Ben's father John B. Clark (1848 VA-1901 KY). If this seated man is my "brickwall" John B. Clark, this picture was taken before he died in March 1901. We do know that the seated man is not Ben's father-in-law Joseph Hughes. Ben Clark: s/o John B. Clark and Permela/Permelia/Amelia E. Burton CLARK. Permela E. Burton (1851-1896) d/o Jesse & Margaret (Brooks) BURTON, Rockcastle Co. KY. Have no info on John B. Clark's parents, county of birth in VA (WV?), relatives, etc... Ben m'd Elizabeth Hughes d/o Joseph and Jane (Baxter) HUGHES, Laurel Co. KY in Laurel co. in 1901. Ben worked as coal miner when he was young; he became a conductor for L&N Railroad & retired from there 1950s>. He was a member of the Red Men org in the Laurel Co. area in the early 1900s, and also was in the Spanish-American War. Ben's sisters married the following: Nanie J. m'd Thompson JEFFREY/JEFFREY, Maggie m'd Logan SALYERS/SAILORS, Ida B. m'd Luther BLACK, Hattie M. m'd Jake Atherton, Delbert Gibins Clark m'd Lottie ADAMS. Steve was a coal miner and moved to several different mines. They are in the 1910 Knox county, but do not appear in the 1920. They both lived in Laurel at time of death. I am assuming they would be in Laurel in 1920, from info from my family. Any help would be appreciated.
