    1. Excerpts from The Mt Echo Appended Version
    2. gsutton
    3. Reprinted With Permission of the Laurel Co. Historical Soc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FEBRUARY 18, 1876 Married-On the 7th inst. Rev.. A.S. Hart, to Miss Catherine Miller, Whitley County, Kentucky. On 8th inst. At the residence of the brides father, Whitley county, by Eld. B. A. Peace, Mr. Preston Craig to Miss Elizabeth Bennett. Born to the wife of George Helton, Knox county, on the 8th inst. Triplets one son and two daughters, All alive and doing well . one weighed 6 and two 7 pounds each. FEBRUARY 25, 1876 We understand that Daniel Elliott, son of Lewis Elliott, who has been engaged in illicit distilling, upon hearing the other day that the U. S. Marshall was in the county, shouldered his still and carried it till he fainted under this burdensome load, and notwithstanding he was revived and restored to consciousness, he died the next day. Either the excitement or some internal injury resulting from the fall must have caused his death. The illicit distillers are in the habit of hiding out their stills when they learn that a Marshall is on hands and wherever it is ascertained that he is leaving this part of the country they set up and go to work again. MARCH 10, 1876 The first maple sugar of the season was brought to town last week. It is very fine and sells readily at fifteen cents per pound. Father Landrum preached a very instructive and interesting sermon in the Court-house last Sunday. He will preach for us once a month hereafter. A difficulty occurred the other day, between two colored men, near Greenwood, Pulaski county. One of them, George Fitzgerald, was shot and instantly killed by the other, whose name was Williams. MARCH 24, 1876 We are informed that Jasper Helton Knox county, shot and killed his father James Helton, last Friday and has made his escape. On last Saturday Mr. M. Warren and Miss Annie Dowell, of Rockcastle passed through here on their way home from Tennessee, where they were married. The remains of Miss Mary J. Martin, of Laurel county, who was killed by a pistol shot by young Barnard, some two years ago, was taken up and her head dissected by Drs. Foster, Pitman, and Jackson, a few days since. We understand that it was done at the instance of the prosecution of Barnard, whose trial is still pending. APRIL 7, 1876 Murder In Breathitt Through a number of citizens of Breathitt county, who were in the city yesterday we learn that Mason Combs was killed and Samuel Howard shot four times near the house of Henderson Killbourne, on Turkey Creek, in the county, on 23d March. A feud has existed for some time between Killbourne, Davidson and Spicer on one side and Combs, Howard, and Holland on the other. Holland was shot at by some unknown person while passing down the Kentucky river on a raft, about two weeks ago. Killbourne is represented to us as a lawless desperado and as the killing was done near his house in the public road, he is believed to be the guilty party. Combs on the contrary is represented by our informants to be a peaceable, law abiding man. Deputy Marshals, Mahan and Brown brought in two prisoners last Monday, "Red" John Williams of Laurel and James Broughton of Knox county charged with moon shinning. Our Piscatorial friend, Mr. Speed Clark, showed us the head of a salmon, caught in Rockcastle river, near Crew's Ferry which weighed nine pounds and a half. It is said that fish of all kinds are more numerous in Rockcastle this season than usual. APRIL 21, 1876 William Lovelace had two nice fat hogs to die of cholera this week. a little colored girl, in our vicinity, seven or eight years old, caught fire, while left alone the other day and was burned so severely that it is thought she will not recover from the injury. Editors Echo: Having seen accounts of old people in your paper, I will send you the age of Mr. John Prewitt. He was born in February, 1780, which makes him ninety-six years old. When a boy he came from North Carolina to Whitley county, where he now resides with his daughter, and is able to go about without help. He has a sister living in Pulaski county, some two or three years older than himself. MAY 12, 1876 DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN OF LAUREL COUNTY. William Jackson, one of the first settlers of this county who served the people here as magistrate in the early history of the county about fifteen years was high sheriff of the county in the years, 1846 and 1847 and was elected to the Legislature in 1848 as the representative of Laurel and Rockcastle counties. In 1850 he removed to the state of Indiana and from there to Grundy county, Missouri, where he died April 13, 1876 at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 6 days. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for fifty years, was one of the nine members who constituted the church at Rough Creek where his funeral discourse will preached on the 1st Sunday in June.

    2. Deronda, I don`t know of any connection but that doesn`t mean there`s not one. James M Davis Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Francis children were a Juda or Julia, Elizabeth, and a John. Seems like there was another one also. The kids were born 1865-1890.James M. Davis died in 1913. I have his death certifacate and they lived in Williamsburg. I don`t know if any of their children had kids or not. Jeff in Lexington
