Sharyn, I recently got a photo copy of some of "The Family of McHargue in America" by Barbara Sue McHargue of Boreing, KY. But I have not heard of this other book that you mention. Are copies of that still available somewhere? I show she was born around 1865 which would have made her around 18 in 1883 when she married James. Gina - what age does the 1880 census show James to be? This may help us determine which James he is. I have these James' with no information of who they married, just their approx birth year: James born 1832 son of Julius Spivey and Nancy Bishop James M. born 12 Feb 1855 son of Charles & Elizabeth Browning. If it is James M. born 1855, he would be the brother of Mary Jane Spivey( married Cary Carter) my ggg grandmother, whose daughter Mahala Carter married Wiley Moore - Sidney's brother. If James married Sidney than that would make a set of double cousins. That would also make sense, as these families often married several family members this way. If Sidney moved to Iowa with her husband, that would explain why we had no family information on her.

I think you may have found one of the unidentified children of Nathaniel Norvell (March 07, 1772 in VA - 1870 in Holt Co., MO) & Nancy Ann Carvin. I wasn't previously aware of a Francis (Norvell) Sutherland buried in the Lynn Camp Cemetery. Nathaniel served in the War of 1812, he enlisted September 28, 1814 in the Volunteer Mountain Gunman, under Captain Hutchings and Colonel Williamson. Nathaniel first appears in the Goochland County tax records in 1791, when he voted for William Norvell as a delegate to the General Assembly. by 1808 he was living in Claiborne Co., TN, where other Norvells also lived at this time. He later moved to Knox Co., TN by 1811 where he remained until about 1819. By 1824 the family had moved to Pulaski Co., KY at White Oak Creek. By 1840, the Norvells, the Jaspers, the Roys, and other Pulaski families had begun to plan to move to Missouri to the Platte area. The birthplaces of (their son) Carvin's children indicate that they were in Missouri by 1845, and it is believed that Nathaniel and Nancy moved with Carvin to Missouri. Nathaniel later went to live with his son John after Nancy died in Platte county, where she was buried. According to researcher Paul Larkham, Nathaniel was "a rather tall and large, rawboned, complected and sort of good looking man." They had thirteen children. Not all are known to me at this time. The ones I have heard of are: Spencer, Carvin, Edward M., Sarah, John, Nancy Jane, Elizabeth, Rachel Armilda, John C., and America Ann. (I realize that I have two Johns down, but they've got different birthdates and that's what I have in my notes right now.)

James Spivy married a Siddie Moore in Rockcastle Co., KY. I found them with the family in Iowa in 1900....and believe it or not, that makes sense. I mentioned to Becky that my g Uncle has just printed a book written by my g gmother. It's supposed to be fiction, but so far it matches things I've found in records with a bit of a story to tie it together. I'm still looking, but right now, my parents are in the hospital so I've not had a chance to sift it all out. Who is the parent of your James Spivey. My hunch is that James is the Grandson of Charles Spivey, son of Zadock Spivey. But that's not a fact yet....just putting some info together.
Sharyn, Where did you get this book? And can it still be purchased? I am interested in the Norvell line. Kizzia Norvell married William Spencer Lovill(which is the correct spelling).
