Surnames: Freeman, Reams, Burnett, Huston Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EBB.2ACE/2063.2.2.1 Message Board Post: Levi Jackson State Park was formed from land owned by John Freeman, which passed to his daughter Rebacca Freeman, who married Levi Jackson who was a Judge. The following obituary gives some information on the family: THE SENTINEL ECHO DECEMBER 23, 1943 MISS ELLA JACKSON PASSES AWAY. Miss Ella Jackson, who with her brother, the late Col. G. D. Jackson, donated to Kentucky the Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park, died at her home near Fariston Monday afternoon about 3:00 o'clock. Miss Jackson had been feeble for several months and had been confined to her bed the past three weeks, but death came unexpectedly at this time. She became worse Sunday, and early Monday morning she apparently suffered a stroke of apoplexy that caused her death that afternoon. Miss Jackson died in the room at the Jackson homestead in which she was born 83 years ago, on Dec. 6, 1860, a daughter of Judge Levi Jackson and Mrs. Rebecca Freeman Jackson. She was a granddaughter of John Freeman, a Revolutionary soldier, and is believed to have been the last surviving Revolutionary soldier granddaughter in Kentucky. She was a member of the Frankfort Chapter, the mother chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Kentucky. She was a member of the Christian Church. Excepting a short time in Texas with her mother, Miss Jackson has always lived in this same house that was erected soon after the first wagon road was built into Kentucky. Even then maintained her home here. She has been active in civic affairs, and she and her brother in 1931 donated to the State of Kentucky more than 300 acres for the establishment of the Levi Jackson Park. Since that time she has had many other valuable contributions, including her interest in the balance of the Jackson Farm, approximately 700 acres. Miss Jackson's family on both sides had been among the most important in Laurel county since its establishment, and before. Her grandfather John Freeman was one of the earliest settlers, and her grandfather Reubin Jackson came to what is now Laurel County not long afterwards. Miss Jackson often told how her mother Rebecca Freeman, had been born and married and all her eleven children had been born in the same room of the old Freeman homestead, now the Jackson home; and how her mother, who died in another room had been buried from that room. It was at Miss Ella's request that her body was not removed from that room until it was taken to the cemetery. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. D. H. Havens, pastor of the London Christian church, followed by burial in the Jackson family cemetery on the hill above the home by the Cox Funeral Home. Those here from a distance for the funeral were her nephew and two nieces, Robert P. Colyer, of Jacksonville, Fla; Mrs. F. Drayton Thomas, of Waynesboro, Ga; and Mrs. E. S. Austin, of St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Logan Ewell, of Louisville, Ky.

Louisa Reid, born 12 Dec. 1812 in Laurel Co. and died 11 Jan. 1877, Saline Co, MO. George W. Freeman was the son of John Freeman and Rebecca Read. Louisa Reid was the daughter of Thomas Reid and Susan Shelton. John Freeman, born 15 March, 1764 in Fauquier Co, VA, probably the son of John Freeman. He died 5 Feb. 1841 in Laurel Co. KY. John Freeman mar. Rebecca Read 15 March, 1791 in Culpeper Co. VA. She was the daughter of John Read of Culpeper. Rebecca Read Freeman, born 19 Feb, 1773 and died 19 Feb. 1849 in Laurel Co. KY. My descent is through George and Louisa's daughter, Elizabeth Susan Freeman, who mar. Mitchell Morrison Lee 26 July, 1849 in Pettis County, MO. Since I do not know how much information you have, do not know how much you need. Perhaps you already know that John Freeman was in the American Revolution and got bounty land. It may have been part of the land he owned in Laurel County, KY and on which they built the Wilderness Road Inn. The Inn was destroyed by fire a few years ago. It was south of London. KY, near the Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park. There is a highway marker at the site and the Freeman cemetery is there, also. John and Rebecca and a son are buried in it. We were there in Sept, 2003, the stones in very bad shape. Rebecca's was on the ground. Hope this helps. Pat from MO

Hi, I got a virus from someone and it passed it on to many so I have not been on here for a few days trying to clean it up. I now have a Norton 2001 virus scan installed and hope not to ever do this again. I had not had a virus in 10 years so it was awful for me. Still hunting my family members to try and not think about the ones I lost so recently. Just lost my moms twin brother to cancer last week, it hurts so much still but it has only been a year. I got the virus too...sent it to many and have been so sorry as it was not intentional. I too have installed a program that I took off because it was so slow...will not run without it now. First virus I ever got in 10 years. I do hope everyone was proteced and did not open their mail. This has been my first experience and a nightmare for me. I came home after a week away to 149 messages; I don't know where this originated. I had my computer in the shop and Norton 2000 inatalled and you better believe I'm going to upgrade once a week routinely; I had neglected to do so before. By the way, "IT" wrote a nasty letter from me to the Laurel Co. List about reasons why I was unsubscribing; this really blew my mind. Evidently it didn't work as I still seem to be on. Is there a special way of contacting them to appologize? They have tons of resources for Laurel County, more tons of publications, including extracts from the local paper starting in the 1880's, and marriage & cemetery records, too. But they are an all- volunteer organization, so I'm sure they'd appreciate any small donation along with a look up request. I only have two of the Laurel County Cemetery books - the southeast one and the northwest one. I didn't see any spelling versions of Waldvogel listed at all. I think there are at least two or three other cemetery books. Though, perhaps, your Waldvogels were move back to Cook county, Illinois and buried there. There is a KY Death Record Index for 1911 thru 2000 online here: http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ky/death/search.cgi But, obviously, that won't list a death in 1906. Actually, I don't see any versions of Waldvogel in Laurel county at all during those years. Kathy in MN "JEANNE M. Thank you Kathy and Patricia, Your information is very helpful. I am not sure that the John Waldvogel 1880 Census is correct. To my knowledge at that time there was no son named Conrad or daughter with "Lizzie". DOB for parents are right, but our Elizabeth was born in Switzerland. James (Jaocob?) DOB is off 2 years. The information for Wilhelmina Waldvogel Lotz is great as is Christina Waldvogel Behler...we had no names for spouses; and their birth years agree with my Swiss data.
