Whitley and Laurel Genealogical Societies have transcribed and published all the cemeteries in their counties. Knox County Genealogical Society has published five volumes and Knox Historical has published three volumes but these were listed in the 1980's and need to be updated. There are so many cemeteries in Knox County that have not been transcribed and these need to be done as quickly as possible due to the deterioration of the stones and many small cemeteries are becoming overgrown and rapidly becoming lost. I have been talking with Ed Elam about the possibility of taking on the big project of transcribing all the cemeteries in Knox County and putting them in printed form for research. WE NEED YOUR HELP to attempt such a massive task. If you have recently copied a cemetery please sent it to us along with the name of the cemetery and good directions to the site. If you are unable to copy a cemetery, send us the name of the cemetery and directions so we can put it on our list. There are so many family plots which will be impossible to find without your help and we do not want to miss any in this attempt to list all of them in the county. Ed Elam lives in Texas and spends his vacations in Knox County and has transcribed Twenty (20) cemeteries so far. His transcription of the CLOUSE CEMETERY is included in this publication. He has transcribed the following cemeteries: ANDERSON CAMPBELL CEMETERY, GRAY, KY CANDLE RIDGE CEMETERY, KNOX CO., KY CLOUSE CEMETERY, GRAY, KY DAVIS CEMETERY, GRAY, KY GRAY'S CEMETERY, GRAY, KY HUTTON CEMETERY, JARVIS, KY JACKSON CEMETERY, CANNON, KY JAMES A FARRIS CEMETERY, GRAY, KY (ALSO KNOWN AS FARRIS CEMETERY) JARVIS CEMETERY, JARVIS, KY JOHNSON CEMETERY, GRAY, KY KECK CEMETERY, GRAY, KY LYNN CAMP CEMETERY, GRAY, KY MARION CEMETERY, GIRDLER, KY MILLER CEMETERY, GRAY, KY NEW BETHEL CEMETERY, CRANES NEST, KY PARK BRITT FARRIS CEMETERY, GRAY, KY (ALSO KNOWN AS FARRIS CEMETERY) PHIPPS CEMETERY, GRAY, KY SAMPSON HODGES CEMETERY, KNOX CO., KY SMITH CEMETERY, JARVIS, KY THOMPSON CEMETERY, GRAY, KY Carol and Norman Anderson have transcribed the KNOX FORK CEMETERY, KNOX FORK, KY Jules and Carolyn Gambrel have transcribed several cemeteries including: HALES CREEK CEMETERY, ROAD FORK, KY MITCHELL CARNES CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY GAMBREL CEMETERY, HARRONS FORK, KY MILLS BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY, MILLS CREEK, KY RUFUS BARGO CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY JULIA MILLS CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY CARNES CEMETERY, TURKEY CREEK, KY MILLS CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY DEE CARNES CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY LIGE MILLS CEMETERY, STINKING CREEK, KY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS PROJECT. Hello List, My name is Ed Elam. I would like to add to this article that several people helped me to transcribe most of the cemeteries in my list. After visiting some of the cemeteries in Knox County, I can reaffirm that alot of the older and smaller cemeteries are disappearing. Here is our chance to put together a major work so that these cemeteries wont be forgotten. I have seen to many myself in the short time I have been doing this to realize they are disappearing. If we are to preserve these cemeteries we need to start by leaving a record of there existance along with some way to be able to find them in the future. I would definately appreciate anyones help in this project. You can contact either myself or Maxine with the information you have.
