Barbourville Mountain Advocate Newspaper Thursday, October 10, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries Wayne Goley Wayne Goley, 46, of Goldens Creek, Barbourville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at his home. He was a son of the late Earnest and Minnie Wilson Goley, born to them on July 13, 1956 in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Goley was a retired coal miner, a member of the U.M.W.A and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church on Greasy Creek. On Oct. 8, 1976, he united in marriage with Teresa Gail Lake and to this union a daughter, Angela Renee was born. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Leonard Lake. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Gail Goley and a loving daughter, Angela Renee Lee and husband Michael Shane, both of Goldens Creek; a loving sister, Emily Faye Croley and husband Ancil of Siler; a loving mother-in-law, Edna Ball Lake of Goldens Creek; four loving sisters-in-law, Peggy Gray and husband David of Barbourville, Sherry Mays and husband Johnny of Beaver Dam, Betty Gray and husband Don of Bimble, Terry Powers and husband Danny of Goldens Creek; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Wayne Goley were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 with the Rev. Arnold Petrey and the Rev. Jimmy Lee officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery on Goldens Creek. Those serving as pallbearers were: Sammy Wilson, Chris Gray, Dewayne Mays, Jason Powers, Danny Powers and Don Gray. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: The Pineville Hospital, the Knox County Hospital, Dr. Vora, Dr. Rader and all relatives and friends of the Goley family. Ellen Delph Rowland Ellen Delph Rowland, 93, of Fount, was born in Clay County on June 8, 1909 and passed away in the Barbourville Nursing Home on Wednesday, Oct 2, 2002. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Delph and Tennie Bundy Delph. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church at Girdler. On March 25, 1933, she united in marriage to Arnold Rowland and three children were born. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann Smith of Cannon, Betty Smith and husband Curtis of Girdler; her son, Vernon Rowland and wife Frances of Barbourville; six grandchildren and 10 great, grandchildren; her brothers, Berchel Delph of Clarkston, Mich. and Arnold Delph and wife June of Barbourville. Funeral services were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 5 with the Rev. Floyd Isaacs, the Rev. Earl Hammons and the Rev. William "Man" Cobb officiating. Shelby Clarence Vanderpool Mr. Shelby C. Vanderpool, 81, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002 at his home. He was the son of the late Marion and Nettie Johnson Vanderpool, born to them on May 3, 1921 in Knox County. He was of the Protestant faith. He served in in the army during World War II and was awarded many citations, including the Purple Heart. He is survived by four sisters; two caregivers, Chelsie and Julie Walsh of Barbourville. Graveside services were conducted in Reeds Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 5 with the Rev. Lonnie Collett officiating. Military honors were given by the Fort Campbell Honor Guard. Burial was in Reeds Cemetery at Williamsburg. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Hazel Rush Hazel Rush, 92, of London, passed away Sunday at the Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Elmer Rush. She is survived by her children, Elvis Rush, Doris Reams, Elmer Rush Jr., Kelly Rush, Kenneth Rush and Roy Dean Rush, all of London; her sister, Willie Cobb of Barbourville. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the Rev. Denvis Rush and Britt Carroll officiating. Burial was in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park. Isbella Stewart Mrs. Isbella Stewart, 71, of Barbourville, formerly of Green Road, the daughter of the late Jeff and Ellen Smith Mills Stewart, was born In Knox County on April 10, 1931 and passed away in the Knox County Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2002. She was a member of the Cranes Nest Baptist Church and a homemaker. In 1945, she united in marriage with Noah Stewart and 12 children were born. She is survived by her husband, Noah Stewart of Barbourville; four daughters, Mary Ellen Deaton and husband Denver of Cannon, Glenda Deaton and husband Dallas of Green Road, Edna Warren and Flem of Flat Lick, Betty Stewart of Pineville; five sons, Reed Stewart and wife Barbara of Green Road, Otis Stewart and wife Diana of Barbourville, Earl Brook Stewart and wife Reathy of Dewitt, Darrell Stewart and wife Janice of Manchester, Larry Stewart and wife Mossie of Green Road; two sisters, Myrtle Barrett of Cannon, Chelcie Kelly and husband Frank of Barbourville; two brothers, Earl Mills of Green Road, Delmar Mills and wife Ethel of Boone Height; thirty-one grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Monday, Oct. 7 with the Rev. Owen Smith, the Rev. Kenneth Merida and the Rev. Tommy Frazier officiating. Quillie Smith Carnes Mrs. Quillie Smith Carnes, 84, of Highway 93, Barbourville, the daughter of the late H.K. and Anne Mayo Smith, was born in Knox County on May 26, 1918 and passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 in the Barbourville Nursing Home. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a homemaker. On Dec. 24, 1934, she united in marriage with Noah Carnes and 12 children were born. She is survived by three daughters, Birdie Smith of Dewitt, Betty Jean Cornett and husband David of Mackey Bend, Pauline Norman and husband Tommy of North Carolina; five sons, Otis Carnes of Mackey Bend, Bill Carnes and wife Faye of London, McArthur Carnes and wife Denise of Louisville, Hubert Carnes of Barbourville, Jeff Carnes and wife Dejuan of Mackey Bend; one sister, Birdie Barnwell and husband George of Middlesboro; sixteen grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Love Viola Scalf Mrs. Love Viola Scalf, 71, of Elizabethton, Tenn., formerly of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 in the Pine Ridge Care Center, following an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late David Crockett and Lula Ann Henson Buttery. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bible Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Gene Yount of Frankfort, Deborah and Walt Chrzan of Greensboro, N.C., Patricia "Patty" and "Pete" Hunt and Betty Lou Campbell, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, James Keith and Diane Scalf of Elizabethton, Tenn.; one brother, Cecil Buttery of Barbourville; four sisters, Sylvia McDonald of Barbourville, Laura Mae Burgess of Morristown, Tenn., Betty Jo Richardson of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Inez Burgess of Covington, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Emily Goldie Rogers Mrs. Emily Goldie Rogers, 87, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 in the Knox County Hospital. She was a daughter of the late James D. and Jane Davis Hinkle, born on June 15, 1915 in Pineville. She was a former inspector with the Chrysler Corporation and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Hobbs of Barbourville and Jeanette McGowan of Girdler; one brother, Sherman Hinkle of Oregon; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 17 great, great grandchildren. Lillian Buchanan Hembree Lillian Buchanan Hembree, 55, of Trosper, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Gracie Logan Buchanan, born to them on April 24, 1947 at Warren Camp. She was a member of the Warren Missionary Baptist Church. On Sept. 16, 1963, she united in marriage to Harold Auther Hembree and five children were born. She is survived by her children, Mary Helen Cox of Warren Camp, Princess Gail Huff and husband Robert of London, Christopher Andrew Hembree of Amherst, Ohio, Lisa Vaughn Hembree of Trosper and Harold Nicholas Hembree of Amherst, Ohio; five grandchildren; her sisters, Gertie Campbell of Triangle, Va., Mae Spoonamore of Elyria, Ohio and Belle Golden of Amherst, Ohio; a brother, Charles Dee Buchanan of Somerset. She was the daughter of Dewey and Jo Lee of Harps Creek and the brother of Scott Lee of Barbourville. Funeral services were conducted at the Beechbottom Baptist Church Monday, Oct. 7 with the Rev.
