My understanding of census taking is that although it is listed as being 1880, it could actually have been conducted during the later part of the previous year. Even if it was done during the spring of 1880, Ellis was born in August so it could possibly have been completed before his birth. The only reason I am confident of his date of birth and birth place is that his wife Lura (known to all as Lurie), had it in her Bible. Now, I realize that could still be incorrect, but I think odds are it was accurate. Unfortunately, she did not list his parents, only hers. I have done some more checking and I have the following information on some of Ellis' siblings, although I'm not certain how accurate some of the dates are: Charity b. 2/1877 d. 4/1950 mar. Kit York Riley b. 5/1884 d. 5/1960 mar. 1st Lola Jones had six children, when she died, he married her sister Nola and had eleven children. George b. 1878 d. 1960 John - I have no information other than at some point in time, Ellis and Lurie adopted his daughter Ethel. I am doubtful that the Sterling Rose family is mine because it does not list Charity and the age for George is about five years off. It would seem they moved around quite often, so I guess I'll keep digging. It's possibly they could have been in Whitley County just prior to Ellis' birth, then moved to Knox. Again, thank you!
