HALE being the George HALE in Knox Co. early on. However, I don't believe that is now true. A George or George W. (depending upon the census year) appears in Knox Co. from 1850 through 1880. He is the son of T. J. HALE and a Barbara MARLOW (I think). She is a widow by 1870. On the 1850, there is a George W. HALE who is 22 years old, born in KY and probably the son of a Rochester HALE b. in KY. By 1860, George shows in the home of T. J. HALE and Barba ALLIN (MARLOW) HALE and he is 8 years old. By 1870, Barbara is a widow and George shows as George W. and is 16 years old, b. in KY. By 1880, he is 24 years old and still in the home with his mother and siblings. Your George or George B. , I think, married prior to 1880. As of the 1900, this George appears as follows in Knox Co. while at the same time your George B. is in Laurel Co.; then later in 1910 in Bell Co. Dwelling 147-148 HALE, George, husband, b. 10-1863, 46, mar. 11 yrs, b. KY , parents b. KY (note how his age continues to change and now instead of his mother being born in NC , both are b. in KY) this happens all of the time! . Bettie, wife, b. 11-1864, 35, mar. 11 yrs, b. KY; 5 born; 4 living, b. KY . Johnnie, son, b. 5-1892, 8, KY . Robert, son, b. 5-1894, 6, KY . Mollie, dau, b. 1-1896, 4, KY . Willie, son, b. 10-1899, 8 mo's, KY There is also another George W. born in 1881 who is in the household of T. J. HALE. Most likely the "W" in George's name stands for George Washington and the T. J. in the other HALE stands for Thomas Jefferson. People back then liked to name folks for famous people, Presidents, generals, and so on and so forth. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA
