Survivors include three sons, Ron Whittaker and wife, Donna of Williamsburg, Bob Whittaker of Manchester, Tennessee and Mike Bowling of Lexington; three granddaughters, Heather Whittaker, Stephanie Whittaker and Natasha Michelle Bowling; three brothers, Robert Perkins, Greg Perkins, and Richard Perkins, all of Williamsburg; five sisters, Jean Vest of Clarksville, Indiana, Shirley Bryant of Louisville, Lou Prewitt of Charlestown, Indiana, Margie Woodruff of New Albany, Indiana and Debbie Grasham of Charlestown, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Truitt and Pearl Perkins and one brother, Michael Perkins. Funeral services were held Monday, September 2 at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Powers officiating. Burial was in the Canadatown Cemetery. Ellison Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Elijah J. Carter, 74, London, passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran and a member of Calvary Worship Center in London. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Carter of London; two sons, Steve and Sharon Carter of London and Larry Joe and Yunhui Carter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one grandson, Steven Ray Carter, Jr. of Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Linda Ballard of Powell, Tennessee and Georgia Freeman of Fort Wayne, Indiana. His wife, Juanita Dykes Carter, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 29 at the Jones & Son Funeral Home Chapel with pastor L.J. Harrison officiating. She is survived by her husband, Albert Rose of Ferndale, Michigan; three step-daughters, Wilma Sue Brooks of Ferndale, Michigan, Wanda Arlene Brown of Lake Orion, Michigan and Betty Lois Vangorder of Madison Heights, Michigan; four step-sons, Billy Ray Rose of Brown City, Michigan, Albert Wayne Rose of Warren, Michigan, Jimmy Rose of Madison Heights, Michigan, and Jeffery Dale Rose of Hazel Park, Michigan; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah Oreda Ray of Jonesville, Virginia and Delora Cain of Harlan. Bobby Ray Stevens, 66, Highway 92 West, Jellico Creek Community, Williamsburg, passed away Monday morning, August 26, 2002 as a result from injuries sustained from an automobile accident on Highway 92 West. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Wilson and husband, Oscar of Williamsburg; two sons, Bobby Joe Stevens and wife, Teresa of Highway 92W, Williamsburg, and Bruce Stevens and wife, Shonda of Highway 92, Williamsburg; two grandchildren, Eric Wilson of Williamsburg and Marina Wilhoit of Highway 92W, Williamsburg; his mother, Hettie Stevens of Hwy. 92W, Williamsburg; one brother, Vernon Stevens and wife, Jewell, of Highway 92W, Williamsburg; one sister, Jeanette Neal of Highway 92W, Williamsburg; nephews, Ronnie Neal, Brad Stephens, Greg Manning, George Manning, and Michael Manning; nieces, Sue Lewis and Brenda Neal; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Vicki Manning of Williamsburg, Joyce Stephens of Hwy. 92W, Williamsburg, and Suzanne Manning and Wendell Manning of New Jersey. Croley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Clint Smith, 80, Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Habersham County Medical Center. He was born in Whitley County on July 3, 1922 to James and Dora Smith, that precede him in death. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Clarance Smith; five sisters, Irie, Cleta, and Eric Smith, Clara Cornelius and Clemma Prewitt; and his wife, Edna Smith. Clint retired from Whitley Farm Supply in Williamsburg. Survivors include his children by his first wife, Patty Eaten of Mt. Airy, Georgia, Brenda Love of Corbin, Lois Lovitt of Williamsburg, Darlene Faulkner of Mt. Airy, Georgia; one son, Clint Smith, Jr. of Williamsburg; ex-wife of 39 years, Mary C. Smith; a grandson whom he raised, Phillip Sluss of Williamsburg; one sister-in-law, Della Smith of Williamsburg; many nieces, nephews and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held August 16 at the Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, Georgia. Burial was in the Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Williamsburg. Lucille "Alma" Moses, 85, Wolf Creek Road, Williamsburg, passed away Monday morning, August 26, 2002 at the Williamsburg Nursing Home. She was a member of the South Second Street Tabernacle Church of God and member of Venus Chapter 179 O.E.S. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Quint Moses of Wolf Creek Road, Williamsburg; one daughter, Wanda Rountree of the Pleasant View Community, Williamsburg; two sons, Benny Lee Moses Sr. and wife, Shirley of Woodbine and Archie Moses and wife, Debra, of the Pleasant View Community, Williamsburg; ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Sammons, 62, Corbin, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002. Funeral services were held August 31 at the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Elliott and Rev. Jim Murray officiating. Burial was in the Perkins Cemetery by Hart Funeral Home. Ray Love, 52, Woodbine, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002 at his home. His wife, Carla Love of Woodbine, survives. Funeral services were held August 31 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Decker officiating. Burial was in the Corn Creek Cemetery by Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Hazel Gilbert Morgan, 80, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home. Eight children survive. Funeral services were held September 1 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Kidd and Rev. Donnie Mathis officiating. Burial was in the Resthaven Cemetery by Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Herman Hall Goodman, 66, New Richmond, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife, Ruby Sams Goodman, survives. Graveside funeral services were held August 31 at the Sams-Hill Cemetery with VFW Post 1410 conducting the graveside military services. Burial followed by the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Evelyn Elswick, 76, Williamsburg, passed away Friday, August 30, 2002 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. She was the wife of the late Otho Elswick of Williamsburg. Graveside services were held September 1 at the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Junior Kersey officiating.
