    3. Found this over on Laurel Co page: This includes my Capt. Peter Hinkle who's recently found grave is in old cemetery recently dedicated by Amer Legion Post (West of Richland Creek - just outside of Flood wall....in Barbourville). I don't even know offical name of graveyard!!! I thought this newpaper clipping should also be in Knox Co info. OCTOBER 3, 1884 KNOX COUNTY SOLDIERS At a meeting of the Soldiers of Knox Co., held at the courthouse in Barbourville, Ky., on Saturday, Sept. 20, 1884, Hon. J. H. Tinsley, Chairman of the committee on invitations to the Reunion to be held at London, Ky., on September 25, 1884, in a brief speech explained the object of the meeting. And upon motion Col. James D. Mayhew was made Chairman and Lieut. A. Y. Culton Secretary. Upon motion for an enrollment the following soldiers responded and enrolled their names with the Secretary: Lieut. Co. James D. Infantry; John R. Hicks, Co. C., 10th Tenn. Infantry; Thomas Hammonds, Co. K., 1st Tenn. Cavalry. On motion the following named were appointed by Chair as a committee on permanent organization; J. H. Tinsley, Stephen Golden, Peter Hinkle, Green Elliott and S. F. Kelley who retired for a short time and returned and reported the following which was unanimously adopted: 1st. That we approve the call for a reunion of the soldiers of the late war, to be held at London, Ky., September 25th, 1884, and will as many of us attend same as can possibly go. 2nd. That we can see the benefits to be derived socially and otherwise, by an annual reunion of the old soldiers of Eastern Ky., and hope same will become permanent. 3rd. That we recommend to this meeting that a permanent organization of the soldiers of Knox county be effected, and for that purpose that a committee on permanent organization be appointed, and that the following officers be selected, to wit: A President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, and also that a suitable committee be appointed to draft a constitution and bylaws, and report same at our next meeting. The undersigned committee on permanent organization submit the following names to be elected as officers for the ensuing twelve months: Col. J. D. Mayhew, President: Capt. Peter Hinkle, Vice-President: A. Y. Culton, Secretary; Green Elliott, Treasurer. The committee would further recommend that our annual meeting of this organization be fixed for the 15th day of Sept. 1885. ______________________________ NOTE: Capt.     3. Alice, The Laurel Co. researchers have a picture online of that reunion on their courthouse steps!! Any identification of those men is greatly welcomed. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kylaurel/military/civilwar.html I'm very glad to now know that the date of the Laurel Co. reunion was September 25, 1884.
