Thursday, December 26, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries Brenda Patterson Mrs. Brenda Patterson, 42, Bull Run Road, Barbourville, Ky., the daughter of Ruby Ella Mosley Parker and Winston Parker, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 as the result of an automobile accident. She believed in the Baptist faith and was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Danny Patterson, Walker Park Road; two daughters, Amy Lewis and husband Jason, Corbin, and Emily Kobayashi and husband Hiro, Lexington; one son, Joseph Patterson, Walker Park Road; her mother, Ruby Parker, Walker Park Road and her father, Winston Parker of Florida; three sisters, Linda Engle and husband Ricky, Gray, Delonis Ann Couch and husband Al, London, and Linda D. Bigs, Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Edward Parker, Walker Park Road, Freddy Parker and wife Sharon, Kissimmee, Fla., Wendell Parker and wife Donna, Kissimmee, Fla. and Lonnie Parker, Walker Park Road; five grandchildren. Services were conducted in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 with the Rev. Earl Hammons officiating. Burial was in Rose Cemetery on Walker Park Road. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mary Ellen Mills Liford Mary Ellen Mills Liford, 33, of Baughman, Ky., the daughter of the late Code and Willie Mae Wagers Mills, passed away at her home Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. She believed in the Pentecostal faith. She is survived by four daughters, Kayla Wagers, Dewitt, Joan Hinkle, Peggy Hinkle and Kim Hinkle; one son, Oliver Hinkle Jr.; one sister, Bertha Gray and husband James, Gray; six brothers, Lloyd Wayne Goley and wife Wynetta, Indiana, Billy Wagers and wife Barbara, Gray, Jerry Lee Wagers and wife Georgia, Indiana, John E, Miller, Elizabethtown, Adam Wagers, Gray, and Clarence Ray Mills, Williamsburg; four stepsisters, Lois Hollin and husband Larkin, Gray, Sherry Sanders and husband Craig, Debbie Miller, Colene and Jimmy; six stepbrothers, Paul C. Miller, Dennis Miller, John A Miller, Harold Miller, Ricky Miller and wife Debbie and Kerry Miller and wife Becky. Services were conducted in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 with the Rev. R.P. Edwards officiating. Burial was in Farris Cemetery at Gray. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Sallie Mills Broughton Sallie Mills Broughton, 96, of Hammond, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at Barbourville Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Rev. Larkin Mills and Lizzie Merida Mills. Her husband Clarence C. Broughton preceded her in death. She and her late husband operated the C.C. Broughton Grocery at Hammond. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church at Mills. She is survived by three sons, Roscoe Broughton and wife Fern of Lexington, Glen Broughton and wife Wanda of Bailey Switch and Tip Broughton and wife Jane of Sterling Heights, Mich. ; six daughters, Oda Grubb of College Heights, Mich., Ada Hammons and husband Radford of Bailey Switch, Elizabeth Trent and husband Glen of Cincinnati, Ohio, Irma Ore and husband Julius of Gray, Bobbie Messer and husband Wendell of Fraser, Mich. and Louise Dingess of West Chester, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 30 great, grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren; a brother, William Mills of Bimble. Services were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 with the Rev. Lonnie Collett and the Rev. Darryl Bargo officiating. Burial was in Tommy Broughton Cemetery at Roadfork. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Donald Smith Mr. Donald Smith, 59, of Jarvis, Ky., the son of the late Jeff and Anna Smallwood, passed away at his home Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. He believed in the Baptist faith and was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Smith, Jarvis; three daughters, Crystal Owens Rice, Lisa Owens and Kathy Owens, all of Jarvis; two sons, Dennis Owens and wife Cathy, Brandon Smith, all of Jarvis; three sisters, Bobbie Smith and husband, Jarvis, Shirley Gambrel, California and Sophie Kosiniski, London; seven brothers, Arthur Smith, Jarvis, Vernon Smith and wife Joyce, London. Earl Smith and wife Eva, Jarvis, Russell Smith and wife Patty, Jarvis, Gilbert Smith and wife Darlene, Jarvis; five grandchildren. Services were conducted in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 with the Rev. Brian Hacker and the Rev. Randy Rose officiating. Burial was in Lawson-Owens Cemetery at Jarvis. Bricie Walker Mr. Bricie Walker, 79, of Walker, Ky., the son of the late Wade Walker and Dora (Carnes) passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. His wife, the late Laura Evelyn (Mills) Walker preceded him in death. He was a member of Dewitt Baptist Church and a former postmaster at Walker. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Walker of Walker; one brother, Ernest Walker and wife Helen of Flat Lick; one granddaughter; two great grandsons. Services were conducted in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 with the the Rev. Earl Hammons and the Rev. Vernon Morris officiating. Burial was in Powell-Walker Cemetery at Walker. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Maxine B. Gregory Mrs. Maxine B. Gregory, 88, of Lynch, Ky. passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at St. Anthony Health Center in Michigan City, Ind. She was a member of the National Education Association and Retired Teachers Association, having taught for 42 years, and a member of the Greater Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Gregory. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Mary Gregory of Michigan, City, Ind.; stepdaughter Juanita Aaron of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister Odessa Butler of Southfield, Mich.; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Hampton officiating. Burial was in Tanyard Hill Cemetery in Barbourville. Johnson Funeral Home of Lynch was in charge of arrangements. Cecil Gray Cecil Gray, 81, of Elkton, Md., formerly of Knox County, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. He was the son of the late Henry and Mary Broughton Gray. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his brothers, Walter Gray, Corbin and Carl Gray, Cincinnati, Ohio. Services were held Sunday, Dec. 15 at Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton. Burial was in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton. Lester Mills Lester Mills, 85, of Flat Lick, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 in Marymont Medical Center in London. He was the husband of Gertrude Jackson Mills. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hopper Funeral Home.
