    1. Judge Thomas Gordon HAMMONS/Perry BROUGHTON
    2. Joyce Collins
    3. RESPONSE: I have a number of family connections to your family but no direct knowledge of the story you outline below. For one example, the Catherine "Kittie" TAYLOR who mar. 2nd to Perry BROUGHTON was the dau. of John TAYLOR and Esther GAMBREL. John TAYLOR was a s/o Nelson TAYLOR (older brother of my g-grandfather, Harrison TAYLOR). Both Nelson and Harrison were sons of Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR and Sarah Ann WALKER. On the HAMMONS side, I have Permelia Ann HAMMONS mar. to another of my g-grandfather's siblings who was Isaac TAYLOR. There are many, many more marriages, etc. in the later generations. Patsy Ann HAMMONS KOERNER died from complications of diabetes in the winter of 1998, I am thinking. There is a sister, Elizabeth HAMMONS MASTERSON. I don't know directly how to reach her but perhaps if you make a posting to either or both of the Knox Co. Message Board or Mail List, maybe someone will tell you how to get in touch with her. She may have additional information. If there is any information from my files (census, marriage records, etc.) that you can use, let me know. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA p.s. We have some interesting and fascinating ancestors back there in those hills and just about anything you could think of as far as relationships is possible. Message text written by INTERNET:KYKNOX-L@rootsweb.com >My name is Terry Douglas Creasy and I am doing genealogy research for the Hammons line and am the grandson of Judge Thomas Gordon HAMMONS/Nancy Catherine HUBBARD. Judge Thomas Gordon HAMMONS was b. 16 May 1871 at Road Fork (now Hammond), Knox Co., Ky., and d. 28 Feb 1951 in Barbourville, Knox Co., Ky. He was m. twice: first to Mariah (Marrier) Jane HUBBARD, b. 30 Mar 1869, Knox Co., Ky., d. 19 May 1890; second, to Nancy Catherine HUBBARD on 14 Apr 1892 in Knox Co., Ky. She was the d/o Rev. John HUBBARD and Louisa J. DAVIS and was b. 17 Feb 1875 at Ogle, Clay Co., Ky. and d. 24 Mar 1952 in Corbin, Whitley Co., Ky. Both are buried in the Barbourville City Cemetery. Excerpts from the following letter was sent from Patsy Ann Koerner to Mrs. Katherine H. Buchanan of North Vernon, Indiana. The letter is dated 1 May 1977. Patsy sent a copy of the letter to Pauline (HAMMONS) CREASY, who was my mother and daughter of Judge Thomas Gordon HAMMONS. The letter she sent says in part... "I have found through reliable sources that the father of my great-grandfather, Thomas Gordon HAMMONS, was Perry BROUGHTON. The BROUGHTONS look just like great grandpa--I think the BROUGHTON people are fine people. I am still working on great grandpa's true mother--she may or may not have been a HAMMONS"... It has also been said in the family "you are not really a HAMMONS, you are a BROUGHTON." Patsy also said that Thomas Gordon HAMMONS was close to the Perry BROUGHTON family further fueling speculation about who his parents are. Perry C. BROUGHTON was b. Abt 1837 in Knox Co., Ky. and d. bef 1894 in Knox Co., Ky. His father was William BROUGHTON, b. 1815 in Knox Co., Ky. and d. Abt 1885. Perry's mother was Mariah GREEN, b. 1816 in Ky. Perry BROUGHTON was m. twice: first, on 15 Nov 1860 to Susannah HAMMONS. This is who I suspect might be my grandfather's mother. His second marriage was to Catherine TAYLOR. But if Susannah HAMMONS does turn out to be the mother of Thomas Gordon HAMMONS, then what happened? Did she die in childbirth? Why does Thomas G. HAMMONS and Roda JACKSON then show up as the parents? Did they adopt Thomas? Or did he live with them until adulthood, but was never "adopted" thus still Perry BROUGHTON'S son? Does anyone have the answers? Apparently Patsy did, but she is now deceased and I don't know who has that vital information about my grandfather. Anyone with any information concerning Judge Thomas Gordon HAMMONS/Perry BROUGHTON/Thomas G. HAMMONS or Roda JACKSON--please contact me!!! Sincerely, Terry D.
