    3. >From the Barbourville Mountain Advocate Thursday, February 6, 2003 Obituaries Mr. Hobart A. Jarvis Sr., 79, of Barbourville, passed away Monday evening, January 27, 2003 in the Barbourville Nursing Home. He was a son of the late Ambrose and Olliff Baxter Jarvis, born on March 22, 1923 at Benham. Mr. Jarvis was a retired federal mine inspector and a member and elder of the 19TH Street Church of Christ in Corbin. During World War II, he faithfully served in the Army Air Corps. At the time of his death, he was a board member of the Barbourville Housing Authority. On October 24, 1944, he united in marriage with Frankie Hayre in Tampa, Fla. and to this union five children were born. In addition to his parents, one sister, Goldie Perkins and one brother, Kenneth Jarvis, preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frankie Jarvis of Barbourville; five children, Sue Ann Fowler and husband Rick of Montgomery, Ala., Mary Elizabeth Downey and husband Jack of San Antonio, Texas, Ellen Hayre Jarvis and fiance Allen Marcum of Lexington, Hobart A. Jarvis Jr. and wife Patti of Lexington and Martha Laurel Navey and husband Byron of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Nellie Murrin of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Frances Ison of Covington, Ga.; three brothers, Edward Jarvis of Connecticut, James Jarvis of Dayton, Ohio and David Jarvis of Cynthiana; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. The funeral service was conducted in Knox Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Jan. 30 with Bro. David Scott officiating. Mr. Jarvis was laid to rest in Barbourville Cemetery with military honors. Casketbearers were Sean Callihan, Shannon Gregory, Gary Scott, Pat Hauser, John White, Calvin Riddle and John Reid. Honorary bearers were members of Hardee's Coffee Club. Expressions of sympathy may go to either the 19TH Street Church of Christ, 405 19TH Street, Corbin, Ky 40701 or to one's favorite charity in loving memory of Mr. Jarvis. Arrangements were under the direction of Knox Funeral Home. Mrs. Pearl Lee (Peters) Baker, 95, of Barbourville, Ky, wife of the late Bob Baker, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 in Knox County Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Elbert and Ollie (Maxwell) Peters. She believed in the Pentecostal faith and was a homemaker. She is survived by three sons, Elvis Owens of Barbourville, Lincoln Owens of Georgetown and Carl Owens and wife Eva of Michigan; one sister, Ocie Nichols and husband Fred of Barbourville; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Peters and Sallie Bolton. Services were conducted in Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Jan. 30 with the Rev. Donnie Broughton and the Rev. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial was in Warren Cemetery at Girdler. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Herman F. Leick, 77, a long time Corbin attorney, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at Baptist Medical Center. He was a son of the late W.H. and Beulah Leick. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was a senior partner in the law firm of Leick, Hammons and Brittain. He was a former Corbin city attorney, prosecuting attorney and Whitley County attorney. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Corbin. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Parks Leick and son Matthew H. Leick, both of Corbin; one brother, William R. Leick of Corbin; two sisters, Marilyn Houston of Maryville, Tenn. and Helen Offutt of Clearwater, Fla. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at O'Neil Funeral Home. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. , Feb. 5, 2003 at O' Neil Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Dunaway and the Rev. Barry Howard officiating. A graveside service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery Thursday at 10 a.m. Contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church Building Fund at 401 N. Laurel Ave., Corbin, Ky 40701. This announcement is a courtesy of Hopper Funeral Home. Billey J. Blevins, 71, of Flat Rock, Mich., formerly of Heidrick, passed away Jan. 10, 2003. She was a daughter of the late John and Oda Swafford of Heidrick. She is survived by her husband, Russell; children, Oda Thomas, Deborah Akers, Martha Kramer, Russell Jr. "Jake", Ted, Pamela and Tina Jerell; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services were conducted Tuesday at Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, Dearborn, Mich. Burial was in Huron Valley Cemetery, Flat Rock, Mich. This is a courtesy announcement of Hopper Funeral Home. Mrs. Edna Jarvis Poe, 81, of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Knox County, the wife of Richard S. Poe, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at her residence after an extended illness. She was the daughter of Dutton and Mary Taylor Jarvis. She is survived by her brother Edward Jarvis. Services were held at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, Loveland, Ohio, Jan. 28, 2003 with Pastor Steve Cremeans conducting the services. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Miamiville, Ohio. William G. "Bill" Brittain, 41, of Union Township, Ohio, formerly of Knox County, passed away Jan. 26, 2003 at his residence. He was a son of Barbara Brittain and the late William B. Brittain. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Brittain; brother, Brian A. Brittain and wife Vickie; his children, Christopher, Sari, Nikki and Rusty Brittain; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 28 at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia, Ohio.
