Dear Joyce, You are a pleasure to read. Do you know who Dudley was in the battle of Dudley's defeat? We are working to find our missing Dozier ancestor. I think he is "old J. D." killed by the Indians about 1826. His wife married Chas Handthorne in 1827. She is my direct ancestor. We find many of her descendants named Joseph Dudley Dozier/Josiah D. Dozier etc. We don't know if our cousins were named for a family surname or just for a famous person they admired. We have many cousins named William O. Butler Dozier and we know they are named after Gen. William O. Butler (no relation to us.) Mary Ellen in Oregon
