Remember the next time you stand and sing "The Star Spangled Banner" that this song was written during the War of 1812, this "second war of independence" that our brave Kentucky soldiers and others fought in. My gg-grandfather, Cornelius Alexander TAYLOR b. 1794; d. 1874 fought in this War, was captured in northern OH during the Battle of Dudley's Defeat, was hit in the side of the head with an Indian tomahawk (per pension testimony), managed an escape and joined another group of soldiers and made his way back to Knox Co., Ky. And, . . . I am here today because he lived.
