Cassy, I just recently found out that my Great Grandpa Jame Sears, son of John Lewis Sears and Phoebe Bennett Sears was in the Civil War. I wrote to Washington DC to get the reocrds and it has been almost 2 months now. They said that they had a flood there a few weeks ago and things are slow right now. BUT.... When I get them I would be proud for you to put them on the Knox County Site! Pati Sears-Burnett
Hi Pati, Today, was the first day I have been to NARA since the flood. They reopened the Research rooms last Wednesday. I'm a professional researcher and I research for others at NARA. The flood did a lot of damage to the basement (thank goodness the records are housed on the upper floors). Due to the flood, NARA is not operating on 100% electricity. They have cut back their hours of operation to 8am - 5pm. Everyone has to be out of the building by 5:00, except for security personnel. They are no longer opened on the weekends. I was told today that this will continue for the rest of the year and possibly next year. This is not all flood related, but is also related to the budget crunch. They are cutting back on personnel and have a hiring freeze going on. Just FYI Beth -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 8:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KYKNOX] Pension files Cassy, I just recently found out that my Great Grandpa Jame Sears, son of John Lewis Sears and Phoebe Bennett Sears was in the Civil War.
