First Bell County is in the Cumberland River Basin. However Pineville the county seat is the only area with flood walls and doors to close the wall when the Cumberland River is at the Flood stage when the town is threaten. Several years ago the flood wall was not as high as it is now and the gates were closed.. However the water came over the wall at a low point near the Pineville Hospital. The town of Pineville was underwater with some homes and business with water almost in the second story. After that is when they raised the wall and changed where the doors are placed. Any one on the list remember the date of that flood.. 197? Cannot remember. Kay Adams Middlesboro, KY
