My Sears Family... James Sears born 1718 in Glousester County Virginia was married to Sarah Coffman. It is suggested that he was married before Sarah. Their children were Mary Sears Catherine Sears William Sears married to Charity and moved to Logan County/Todd County John Lewis Sears (me) born 1773 South Branch of the Potomac River, Hampshire County Virginia. This area is now... Hardy County West Virginia. Lewis died on February 19, 1844, and is buried on the old Sears Farm. He was married to Judith Ann Wheeler. Their son James Sears was my GGG Grandfather. He was first married to Orpha Corder. She died in a fire while rendering lard and lye to make soap. They were married on July 31, 1794. It is said she is buried in Tennessee. There are 2 children that are known from this marriage Elizabeth Sears and John S. Sears. James then marries Anna Meek in 1798 in Greene County Tennessee. She is the daughter of Nathaniel Meek. They move to Knox/Whitley County Kentucky. It is written that James Sears sent his son John S. Sears to Knox County (what is now Whitley) where he obtained land on Patterson Creek in 1813 in the amount of 170 acres. Proof of this is in the Survey Book A in Knox County. Grant Bennett. James W. Sears born March 1879 and died on November 14, 1937 and is buried in the Mountain Ash Cemetery in Whitley County. He was married to Susan Durham Alexander "Lincoln" Sears born June 11, 1885 and died September 1, 1842. he is buried in the Wells Cemetery/ He was married to Rebecca Powers. John Harrison Sears (me) born June 2, 1890 in Poplar Creek kentucky and died March 7, 1963 in Mountain Ash Kentucky. He is buried in the Reed Cemetery.
