Michael GRINDSTAFF 21 May 06 In a msg posted KYKNOX-L web page - History of Knox County - Linda Hollman mentioned some names may have been missed. I don’t have the book, so I can’t look, but the following family was in Knox Co. by abt 1809. Michael GRINDSTAFF b. 1777 Burke Co., NC d; Knox Co., after 1850 as he is listed in that census, living with his son, Lawson. With the help of others I have learned his wife was named Catherine. My informant said that name was in a court document for divorce. Apparently no mention of her surname before marriage. Nor was I provided a date for court action. Assume marriage took place before 30 Jan 1799, because son Drury was b: that date Carter Co., TN. Four more children, Jacob, Lawson, Elizabeth, were b; in Carter Co., TN by 1805. Son Michael was b: 1807, but I do not know where. From 1809 thru 1814, four more children were b: in Fighting Creek, Knox Co., KY. Louisa, Mary, Sarah Ann, and Nancy. Mary (Polly) GRINDSTAFF b: 22 Jul 1810, m: Adam REEDER, on 27 Nov 1833, in Wilson Co., TN Adam was b: 22 Jun 1812, VA (place unknown) Mary’s father, Michael, sold Adam and Mary 300 acres on Fighting Creek, 15 Sep 1838. So if this History of Knox County covered this period, I would think the GRINDSTAFF family would be mentioned. Adam is listed in the Index as READER 148 and REEDER 105 There is an Edward READER listed 148, but I do not have him in my data. Ken Reeder Blytheville, AR [email protected]
