I am looking for cemeteries in Dubois and Orange County Indiana. I had many relatives that migrated that way from Knox County Kentucky. My goal is to find as many as I can and photograph them this coming weekend. What that means for me is to photograph each individual tombstone. You can find the ones I have already done by visiting Tombstone Central. My problem. I don't know where they are located. Can anyone help with some directions? I met a really awesome man the last time I was in the area who was restoring old cemeteries and he gave me directions to many that I went to at the time, but never kept the directions. I have learned better. I know this is kind of a vague question, but if anyone can give me directions to any of the cemeteries in either of these two counties I would be forever grateful. Please e-mail me at [email protected] I'm leaving on Thursday and have until Sunday to do as many as possible. I know that I want to go to the following cemeteries as I took photographs there the last time I went, but was such a newbie I didn't think of taking all the tombstones. Now I need to go back as I'm sure I missed more than half of my family in each of them. If I can find them that is and then any more than that will be huge bonuses. Dubois County Cuzco Cemetery Cuzco Hillsboro Cemetery Shiloh Payne cemetery Duff Traylor Cemetery City Unknown Orange County Ames Cemetery Chapel French Lick Township Cane Creek Cemetery Cane Creek Elon Cemetery Elon Mt Lebanon Cemetery Mt. Lebanon South Liberty Cemetery City Unknown To see the Indiana Tombstones I have taken so far so you know I'm not just crazy. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/Indiana.html Thanks in advance, Cassy. Remember even if you only know how to get to one cemetery or if it isn't a cemetery on my list I would still love the directions. I get nuts when I'm taking photographs! As for sending this to the Knox County list, I know many people on the list don't live in Knox County, thought maybe someone here could help me out also. -- Knox Co. site address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyknox/Knox-County-Home.html "Show me your cemeteries, and I will tell you what kind of people you have." -Benjamin Franklin

Cassy, Since you've already been given several great map links, here's my methodology for finding cemeteries in an unfamiliar territory: 1. I know that in the places I've done research (mostly Ohio & Kentucky), the best bet is to stop in the courthouse & ask for a county map. Sometimes they'll direct you to the map department or roads department or whatever, but I've gotten some incredibly helpful, detailed maps with this method. 2. If there's a local historical or genealogical society, call ahead & see if they have a listing on the cemeteries you're looking for or a member who can help you search. 3. Find the local funeral homes & ask them for assistance. They...uh...- well, they know where the bodies are buried! 4. Check the local library/ libraries for older maps of the county. Ask the librarians where to eat lunch---- stay away from the chain restaurants--- tell them you want to eat where the local people eat. You'll get a great meal & then you can ask you waitress, the cook, the folks at the next table, etc, if they know where these cemeteries are, what landmarks to look for, etc. Have a great trip & drive safely! If I wasn't on jury duty I'd beg to tag along!
