    1. Re: KNOX COUNTY 1840-1850 CENSUS AND 1845 TO 1850 MARRIAGES
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBB.2ACE/5898.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello, My understanding from you is that your Effie HARJO or BULL, a Native American, probably married prior to the 1850 Fed. Census. That being so, she is NOT going to show up anywhere on any census by her name. The largest collection of HARJO persons was in Indian Territory which later became Oklahoma. Lots of them on the 1870 and 1880 Fed. Census. If she was around as of the 1850 and was unmarried at that time, it is doubtful if her family was Native American that she would have ever been counted anyway. NA's were treated pretty much or even below Black persons in those times. They were non-persons. If they were counted, you would find them listed as a "free Black" or as a Mulatto. Only once in KY have I seen an NA listed as "Indian" . I am not familiar with the BULL family. You need to really try to make a connection with one of them. As of the 1820 there is a Richard BULL listed: 1820 Knox Co. - Clear Creek BULL, Richard, male, 27-45 . .Female, 27-45 . Female, over 45 . .Male, to 10 . .Male, to 10 . Female, to 10 . .Female, to 10 NOTE: There is no marriage for him in Knox Co. On the 1810 Knox co.there is a James BULL, 16-25; there is a John BULL, age 26-45 and there is a John BULL, Sr., all with families and not a one of them with a child of the age group who could have been Richard BULL. Therefore, he must have come into Knox co. from elsewhere and prob. married elsewhere. 1830 Knox Co. BULL, Richard, 50-60 . Male, 70-80 . .Female, 40-50 . Male, under 5 . .Male, 5-10 . .Male, 10-15 . .Male, 15-20 . .Male, 15-20 . .Female, 5-10 . .Female, 10-15 . .Female, 15-20 PLUS 4 female SLAVES (3 are under 10 and one is 10-24) 1840 Knox Co. BULL, Richard, male, 60-70 (appeared to be widowed as this point) . .Male, 15-20 . .Female, 15-20 PLUS 6 SLAVES Only remnants of his family remain as of the 1850 and it appears he has died. The only Richard BULL I see is age 14 yrs, b. in KY and in the household of John T. BULL and wife, Matilda, Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA
