RESPONSE: You are absolutely correct in that often ages varied and could easily be off a few years one way or the other. For example, I found: Charlie BUCHANAN , SS403-42-0255 died in Pulaski Co. on April 1982 vs. 1962 and he was born 3-13-1902. Then you found Charles BUCHANAN b. 2-17-1896; d. Aug 1962; SSN 401-18-7453 I also found this that "sort of" looks like the Charles BUCHANAN dying in 1962: WW1 Draft Card Reg. Charles Houston BUCHAN b. 2-12-1896; born in: Scottsville, KY employed in Toledo, OH, registered for the draft in: Nashville, Davidson Co., TN Unfortunately, these days to order a SSDI record costs 27 dollars each. However, in a pinch it is worth it to get the parents' names. Charley/Charlie BUCHANAN, assuming he is the child of John and Belle BUCHANAN, does not show up in Whitley Co. on the 1900 census. He shows up in 1910 in Knox Co. with his parents as a 9 year old.
