There is a mountain range between part of the county line between Bell and Knox counties. The Cumberland River runs through both Bell and Knox counties. Connie, Thanks for the information. The maps I have aren't the best and I can't find any better. I'm guessing that the Cumberland River rises in Letcher county and flows through Harlan before it reaches Bell county but I'm not certain. I am trying to research the Johnson families of SE Kentucky who lived along the Cumberland but I'm not sure where to begin and where to end!
