The information I have located is from Bell Co., KY but it is right next to Knox Co., KY. I am just thinking it possibly could be your Alvie SMITH. >From the 1930 Bell Co., kY Fed. Arvill, g-son, 11 (KBI shows: Arville T.MIRACLE b. 4-3-1919 in Bell Co., not recorded until 1953; Vol. 185, Cert 90749; maiden name of mother: Bessie SMITH) . . Clyde, g-son, 8, b. KY * * ARNETT, Fairlender, g-dau, 3 yrs (KBI shows: Fairelender ARNETT born 8-29-1926 in Bell Co., Vol. 073, Cert 36228; maiden name of mother: Mellie SMITH) SMITH, Alvie G., "g-son", (cannot read age!!!)* * * NOTE: Regarding the Alvie G. SMITH, I found this birth record and am really wondering if it is not the same person: BARNETT, Alva G. b. 4-17-1929 in Bell Co., KY; Vol. 029, Cert 14481; maiden name of mother: Mellie SMITH You would need to order a couple of birth records to really come up with what the truth is. I also found this which makes me think that Mellie SMITH actually married this man later on: From the Bell Co., KY marriage Index: Roscoe BARNETT to Mellie SMITH on 1-2-1931 in Bell Co., KY - Book 58, Page 114 NOTE: If you obtained their marriage record, you could possibly learn much more. It looks to me that Mellie SMITH possibly married an ARNETT and had Fairlender and then divorced him. Then maybe when she was single she had Alva G. SMITH with this BARNETT and then later on married Roscoe BARNETT. These are just guesses on my part.
