    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ShermanGibbs44 Surnames: Lee, Alford, Fee Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.knox/9289/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Who is the Lee parent of John Riley Lee born 1881, died 14 July 1972? He is listed as the grandfather of HIS grandfather James N. Lee on the 1900 Knox County census...lol..the grandfather is listed as the grandson...seems the census taker had a weak moment... This John Riley Lee had five children, three born in Knox County: Earl, Flora Beatrice, Mary Elizabeth, Georgia V. and John Riley. Earl,Flora and Mary all died in Knox County, unmarried. Georgia survived her father and died in 1996 in Covington, Ky as Georgia Fee, widow of Ulysses S. Grant Fee. She and Mary were both born in GA while John Riley Sr was serving in the US Coast Guard, where he was listed in 1920, Tybee Island, Chatham County (Savannah) GA. John Riley LeeJr. died in Dec. 1971 but I do not know where. I found this using his date of birth for SSI death records..I can not find him in Ky death records... The birth records of the three born in Knox County and the death records of Earl, Flora and Mary Elizabeth all listed Mary Jane Alford as the mother...Mary Jane is the wife on the 1930 census...I do not know when or where the two married...Mary Jane was the daughter of John W. Alford. On the 1930 census John Riley Lee Sr and family was in Harlan County, KY. however, daughter Mary Elizabeth LEE died IN KNOX in 1943. Per his obit in the Corbin Times-Tribune, July 16, 1972, John Riley Lee was survived by his wife, listed merely as Mrs. John R. Lee and daughter Georgia Fee and 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren... Most of these must come from Georgia and John Riley Jr...but Georgia has no children survivors in her obit... Vankirk Funeral Home (Corbin) does not have a record of who his parents were...perhaps TN does as he died in the VA Hospital in Johnson City, Washington Co., TN. He is buried on the Bee Creek Road, Young's Cemetery, across from what once was the Bark Camp Post Office. I suspect that one of James N. Lee's several daughters was the mother of this John Riley Lee. If one of his sons fathered him, I would think that the unknown mother would have raised him instead of the Lees.. Any help appreciated.. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
