Dec 29, 1874: She would not be listed on the censuses (I've seen them also) with Calaway and Nancy Moore for the story goes she was GIVEN AWAY to an uncle, we believe to be Sterling Moore (died in logging mishap Bell co 1877), whose widow Sarah (Peavely) Moore is listed 1880 Knox with a 5 yr-old Mary. Would you look for this 1874-75 birth to this couple. If the birth is there, then it must have been another Uncle who raised Calaway Moore's child Mary. In trying to understand why our ggrandparents would give away this child, my sisster and I are wondering if she may actually be illigitimate dau. of Calaway Moore and--Unknown . Does that birth record you found of Mary L Moore list the mother's actual name, as in "Nancy Bennett/Moore", or just "Calaway Moore and wife", as you wrote. This Mary was unknown to us until recent years when an elderly relative revealed the story to another cousin. This Mary was never talked about. Now we know for sure. Thank you so much.
