    2. The History of Providence Baptist Church, Winston, Estill Co Ky 1856-1978 does mention Samuel Newman who operated a tannery and owned slaves. The 1850 census Estill County lists Samuel Newman as being age 50. He obtained a fifty acre land grant on Drowning Creek 12 Sep 1837. David and Samuel Newman bought 255 acres of land on Drowning Creek from William Burnett in the 1830's. **************Need a new ride?
