    1. [KYKNOX] John Riley Lee
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ShermanGibbs44 Surnames: Lee, Alford, Fee Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.knox/9289/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Who is the Lee parent of John Riley Lee born 1881, died 14 July 1972? He is listed as the grandfather of HIS grandfather James N. Lee on the 1900 Knox County census...lol..the grandfather is listed as the grandson...seems the census taker had a weak moment... This John Riley Lee had five children, three born in Knox County: Earl, Flora Beatrice, Mary Elizabeth, Georgia V. and John Riley. Earl,Flora and Mary all died in Knox County, unmarried. Georgia survived her father and died in 1996 in Covington, Ky as Georgia Fee, widow of Ulysses S. Grant Fee. She and Mary were both born in GA while John Riley Sr was serving in the US Coast Guard, where he was listed in 1920, Tybee Island, Chatham County (Savannah) GA. John Riley LeeJr. died in Dec. 1971 but I do not know where. I found this using his date of birth for SSI death records..I can not find him in Ky death records... The birth records of the three born in Knox County and the death records of Earl, Flora and Mary Elizabeth all listed Mary Jane Alford as the mother...Mary Jane is the wife on the 1930 census...I do not know when or where the two married...Mary Jane was the daughter of John W. Alford. On the 1930 census John Riley Lee Sr and family was in Harlan County, KY. however, daughter Mary Elizabeth LEE died IN KNOX in 1943. Per his obit in the Corbin Times-Tribune, July 16, 1972, John Riley Lee was survived by his wife, listed merely as Mrs. John R. Lee and daughter Georgia Fee and 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren... Most of these must come from Georgia and John Riley Jr...but Georgia has no children survivors in her obit... Vankirk Funeral Home (Corbin) does not have a record of who his parents were...perhaps TN does as he died in the VA Hospital in Johnson City, Washington Co., TN. He is buried on the Bee Creek Road, Young's Cemetery, across from what once was the Bark Camp Post Office. I suspect that one of James N. Lee's several daughters was the mother of this John Riley Lee. If one of his sons fathered him, I would think that the unknown mother would have raised him instead of the Lees.. Any help appreciated.. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They seem to be on rootsweb.com as Nasby MILLS and Esther HADDOCK. Who was Isaac MILLS? Brother or ? Just curious. Not my family MILLS, But happened to find them while looking for my family MILLS of Ohio way back when, ca 1976. Was just beginning, and did not really know what I was doing. But did find a lot of this MILLS family on microfilm and made copies of the pages about Kentucky Cousins. Pat cw My family MILLS did do a lot of traveling, and back and forth around and through Kentucky. So not sure if some or part of our family might have dropped off some family members long time back. 3. Hi Joyce, As you said he is not listed I have never been able to find john Henry garland listed. But the 1910 shows Anna garland as a widow is right. John Henry died sometime between 1908 and 1910 and his grave stone only has his name on it. Etch or cut into the stone. Flora was the last child born to john Henry and Anna in 1908 that's why we know that he died between 1908 and 1910 with Anna as a widow.and I can't find anyone in the family that knows anything about john Henry garland. Like I said that finding the marriage bond has opened up another name Isaac Garland and Mary Owens so I hope some one may know the rest of johns parents and where they are from thanks Jim -----Original Message----- From: kyknox-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kyknox-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Joycetcollins@cs.com Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2007 9:05 PM To: kyknox@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYKNOX] garland's RESPONSE: Hello, This is NOT my family; however, I am curious as to where your John Henry GARLAND and family were in 1900. It gives her parents as: John H. GARLAND and Annie DAVIS. She died from dysentry. On my book of transcribed Knox Co. marriages, it states that John H. was born somewhere in TN and that his father was also born in TN. As of the 1880, neither John H. or J. H. GARLAND are present. There are also death records for: Isaac GARLAND who formerly lived in Knox Co., KY ; who was born 1869 and died at the asylum at Lexington, Fayette Co., KY on 7-29-1911. States he had lobar pneumonia and had a secondary condition referred to as: chronic mania. They had very little information on his and the death record shows no info on parents or wife but states he was married. Then there is the Wiley GARLAND who died in Knox Co., KY who was b. 6-10-1840 and who died on 1-26-1912 of heart failure. It states he was born in Clayborne (Claiborne Co., TN) and further it gives that this Wiley GARLAND's father was also an Isaac GARLAND. 3. Hi Wayne, Yes we had talked about this but we had no information on john Henry garland. I have a copy of both the marriage license and marriage bond. On the bond it is listed as Isaac Garland as security for john Henry garland for Anna Davis. So that leads me to believe that Isaac is his father. And the fact that Isaac Garland and Mary Owens where married in 1870 one year before john Henry was born??. The marriage lic. Says his parents were born tenn. And so was he. Isaac garland was married in Knox co ky in 1870. john Henry garland married in 1890 and says he was 18 or 19 could be 19 looks like it was over laid on 18 but still don't know much about his family??
