    1. Re: [KYKNOX] Marriage Record -- Robert H. Lewis and Elizabeth Logan
    2. Mary Hart
    3. Hi Nancy, thanks for your recent message. I thought your email name looked familiar and went to my notebook on the Lewis family and found our correspondence back in 2002. Yes, the Jesse Lewis who is a son of Robert H. and Elizabeth is the person who married Martha Nunn on September 15, 1858 in Laurel County (Marriage record Laurel Co. BB131) Jesse was born about 1848 (do you happen to have the excact date - I'd like to add that to my material). The birth date and death date and parents of Martha is information you sent me. The little I know about them as a couple is that they were on the 1870 census and are listed as living with Jesse's father, Robert H. Lewis, 68, a farmer. The others in the household were Jesse's younger brothers, George M., 17, and Robert G., 4. Jesse and Martha had a son, William H., 1/12 -- born May of that year. I would like to know if Jesse died before Martha remarried or if they divorced. Also wonder what happend to little William H -- need to look at some later records for him I guess. I have the cemetery book for S.E. Laurel County -- wonder if I should get the other books. I guess I really don't know very much about what part of the county my ancestors lived in. > The Jesse Lewis to Martha Nunn is one of mine. 1. Re: [KYKNOX] Marriage Record -- Robert H. Lewis and Elizabeth Logan
    2. Mary Hart
    3. My computer seems to be working okay now so I will begin responding to the messages I received about Robert H. Lewis and family. Joyce, thank you for checking the marriage records looking for Robert H. Lewis and Elizabeth Logan. I don't know if there is any possibility of them being married in a different county. I have learned in recent years that Robert H. Lewis is a son of Robert Lewis and Elizabeth Farris and that Elizabeth is a daughter of Isham (Isom) Farris and Elizabeth Yancey. I don't know is that might place the marriage in a different location or not -- probably not. You mention that the printed 1850 census indicates Robert H.'s wife was Elizabeth Durham. I believe that to be an error that only helps confuse things. My first genealogy material on these ancestors came to me from an uncle many years ago. He gave me the name of Elizabeth Logan and that seemed to be okay because there are many connections between the Logan, Lewis and Owen families in Kentucky and in Missouri in later generations. Trying to prove it has turned out to be more difficult. I have quite a bit of Logan information but still need to determine who were the parents of Elizabeth. As to the other marriages that seem to be Robert H., I have learned about those over the years as I've worked on genealogy but I have no answer yet as to whether these are him or not. Believe you mentioned something else about them in another message and I'll look at it again before I write more. In looking at the S.E. Laurel County cemetery book again this weekend I did find the Old Union Cemetery with burials of interest -- There is a Marinda Lewis (not sure who she is yet), Isom and Elizabeth Faris (grandparents of Robert H. maybe), and William M. Lewis (Robert H.'s son born in 1828, died 1853). If I've assumed things that aren't correct, I'd really appreciate your turning me in the right direction. Thanks for all your help. Author: ShermanGibbs524 Surnames: Cummins, Golden Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.knox/9300/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In 1850 Elizabeth Cummins Golden was 42; in 1860, she was 50; in 1870 she was 60, and in 1880, she iwas 72 per Knox County censuses..In 1840, she was born between 1810 and 1820. She married James Golden in 1832. Some researchers have her born 1819. Could all of the above(1850, 1860,1870, 1880)censuses be wrong? The only person with a child that could possibly be her in 1830 seems to be William Cummins. Some have her as daughter of James Cummins, yet his only daughter in the 1830 census was born between 1820 and 1830. I know census data is not 100% accurate, but the preponderance of five different census reports would tend to point to a birth of about 1809 for Ellizabeth Cummins Golden...which also aligns itself with the 1810 Knox County report for William Cummins, who had a daughter under age 10 in that census. I am seeking more proof. If anyone has it, please let me know.. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. This has been a long time coming, but I am currently adding over 500 World War I draft cards and about 10,000 KNOX COUNTY death Certificates. I'm still looking for someone who has the 1954, 1955, and 1956 death certificates at their local library they can copy and send in to the Web Site. Any Help is greatly appreicated. The marriage records will be finished next along with a ton of new obituaries that I haven't found time to add to the site. Author: joycecollins Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.knox/9296.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, In the front area of a book I own entitled "History of Families - Bell Co., KY", there is this information (in part) regarding "Lone Jack": ". . Over 100 years ago beside the Cumberland River near what is now Four Mile a two room building was erected to become the first Lone Jack School. According to descendants, Reuben HENDRICKSON was given this land when Kentucky was first being settled (this land grant is recorded in the archives in Frankfort.) The building stood in a grove of trees among which was ONE LONE PINE called a "Jack Pine". Thus the name Lone Jack came into being from this one tree. Evidently, the school grew and a new building was erected after a paved road (referred to commonly as the "pike" and a bridge were built." This article goes on to trace the history of how different school buildings grew and incorporated into the Bell Co. school system. Then finally after the 1977 disastrous flood they decided to have only one high school and that was the new Bell County High School building. Lone Jack buildings became an elementary school again. Then later on in 1992, a new Lone Jack Elementary School was completed. It overlooks US 25-E. The article talks about the principles who served Lone Jack and the educational services offered at Lone Jack.
